We booked this holiday up in January for 14 nights, looking forward to a relaxing break. We arrived to the hotel which we got checked into very quickly and efficiently which was excellent. We went up to the apartment and was waiting for our luggage to be bought up which we waited for a good 40 minutes until we went downstairs to get it ourselves.

From there the holiday went pretty much downhill, from having a group of young adults shouting to each other over our sunbeds whilst me and my other half were trying to sunbathe, not being served a drink one day throughout the whole time we was there for breakfast, not being served our starters in the mexican a la carte.

The waiter service around the pool for the first week was great, always asking if we wanted a drink throughout the day and there isn't a bar near one of the pools. Come the second week, there seemed to be at least one wedding a day which meant there was large groups of people around and the staff seemed to focus more on those than us other holiday makers.

On the last night walking back to our hotel room we noticed someone had gone to the toilet (number 2) on the bridge and this had been spreaded all over the bridge so i had to bin my shoes!! When we went down for breakfast in the morning, this still wasn't cleaned and when we was leaving the hotel at 1pm the bridge had not been washed down but it had gone which is very unhygienic. We complained to the hotel about this and also our TUI rep which nothing came of it, we also wasn't asked how our stay was on check out.

On the plus side, the smoothie bar was brilliant and the coffee shop. The lady in the coffee shop in the morning was so lovely and friendly. The lunch time and evening buffet food was really good and had a lot of variety, the Japanese a la carte was brilliant and was a great entertaining show as well.

If you're looking for a relaxed holiday in the Caribbean i would recommend not going to this hotel, even though i picked it because i heard riviera maya was less of a party place than Cancun well i was wrong! Also excursions are around £200 a couple and it takes 3-4 hours to drive to chichen itza on a coach and back. The coach wanted to pick us up at 4.50am!

Tip: Don't arrive before 3 pm, you will wait sweltering in your winter clothes. Good: the room was very good, the housekeeping and food/bar service staff were friendly and helpful. A good bit of the food was excellent in both the buffet and several of the restaurants. The expresso cafe was outstanding. Some good scuba diving and dive master. Bad: very pushy about marketing extras to you, no real entertainment in the evening except a brief interlude by a violinist at dusk, Sensai restaurant would send any Japanese fleeing in horror. Ugly: worst beach I've ever seen, clean it.

My friend and I stayed at the hotel from 26 February to 5 March 2013. There was a mistake with our room but that might have been the booking agent's fault (we travelled on Air Miles).

We had upgraded to Privilege and it is so worth it - private beach, private club and extras in your room.

I would first like to mention the staff in the Privilege Club, especially the breakfast staff - Maria, Martin and Veronica. These people are extra special and went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

The staff on the Privilege beach was just superb. Firstly, Francisco who helped me in so many ways. I am suffering with a bad back (sciatica) and it became worse while I was on vacation. Francisco helped me by ensuring I had a sturdy sunbed and well-padded cushion. He brought cold facecloths around midday, offered to make dinner reservations and brought fruit bowls around. I know this is all part of his job but he did everything so willingly and always with a smile. Secondly I must mention Enrequo (I apologise if I have spelled the name incorrectly). Enrequo was the drinks' waiter and took care of everybody so well. He seemed to work nonstop supplying buckets, ice and bottled water; then drinks we ordered followed by replenishing the ice to keep the water cold. The Privilege staff gets five stars from me.

I would also like to mention Joaquin who helped me with my hand luggage when the elevators were without power. He was already carrying stuff but helped me nonetheless.

Lastly, I must mention Alexendro (again I apologise if I have misspelled his name). Alexendro was our personal concierge - anything we needed or wanted he provided.

The hotel location is great; our room was large and offered all we wanted. The spa was wonderful and Rosy gave two of the best massages I have ever had. The buffet has a wonderful assortment and the other restaurants offer good to excellent food depending upon your requirements. Mike's Cafe was great for the hot or cold coffees, and the cookies.

Is this resort without problems - no? However, they are minor problems that in no way spoiled my holiday. I should also add that this is my second time visiting this resort.

While at the majority of the resorts we have visited over the years have been pretty much the same in terms of rooms, bars, restaurants, activities etc. - there were a few highlights that really set this resort apart.

- The lobby, pool, restaurants, beach, and rooms are all really close together, so you never need a shuttle, or have to make a special trip back to the room if you've forgotten something - everything is really convenient.
- They have this little cafe which is a welcome alternative to the the buffet or other breakfast and lunch options. We actually found ourselves there quite a bit over the week - so comfortable, great place for coffee in the morning.
- The staff was awesome - food/bar staff and entertainment team - everybody's favorite ping pong referee Denisse!!!

I was down there with a bunch of friends - everyone had a great time - definitely will be back!
