We returned to Ocean Coral and Turquesa for the fourth year and we had an amazing time. We love this resort because it's just what we need, it's not too big, it's not too small, it is entirely on the beach and most of the rooms have an ocean view, Things have changed a bit since our last visit and I can say, they have changed in a good way. The WIFI, for instance, no longer requires password as before. You have it everywhere. The grounds are very clean like usual and the dehumidifier in every room is making a huge difference. I know luxury resorts not having these so we were very happy we are at OCT. Everything looks great and people around you are so friendly and willing to serve you in the best way. They really work hard to please everybody. The entertaining team is amazing, especially the dancers performing in nightly shows. The manager of the entertaining team, Roy and the lead choreographer Charlie, have changed everything in good. These wonderful people that you see on stage every night, are doing such an incredible work. I know that, as tourists, we want everything to be perfect and many times, we forget that they are people just like us, with their problems, many times with back pain, or head ache or injuries. But they put all these behind and put a big smile on their face for us, because "The show must go on". They put such a big effort just to make us feel happy. And they succeed entirely. We have seen amazing shows like "Lion King" and "Grease" and "Dancing with the stars" and many more and you can watch the same show over and over again and still being amazed by their passion and professionalism. You can have fun every night and I really encourage you to go there and be part of the fun, because many shows are interacting with tourists and they really make many people feeling special. I know that all the kids love the beautiful lady in charge with the Kids club, Indy. She is such a pleasure to talk to and we missed her very much. Regarding the food, we found the food very tasty and the buffet was our best option in most of the nights. I would like to see the ice cream booth being more accessible. You have to be dry to enter it and you cannot fit more than 5-6 people inside. Maybe leaving it more open and letting the tourists to self serve like I have seen in other resorts, might be a better idea. The beach is beautiful and despite the seaweed situation of this year, we spent most of the times on the beach, not around the pools. Everything was even better than before and we will return to this amazing resort again and again because it's feel like home.

After reading many of these negative reviews we were concerned our vacation would be a huge disappointment. Thankfully we were very pleased with all aspects of our stay! Our room was spacious and very clean, pools were beautiful and The dining was quite exceptional! We had fun going to all the different restaurants, the crêperie and hibachi restaurant being our favorites!
The grounds were very well tended and one of the most pleasant aspects of our stay was the kids club… Our daughters absolutely loved Indy and Kenia ( the instructors) and were actually really sad to leave!
We were very surprised by the quality of the hotel and the food and the drinks for the price we paid, The wait staff was very friendly and hard-working and the bartenders were great as well. If you bring many small bills ones and fives, it will help a lot as tipping small amounts frequently is much appreciated by the staff but not expected.
Yes, there was seaweed on the beach but we saw people out shoveling and trucks out picking up the sea weed every single day while we were there And unfortunately this sea weed problem expands across the entire Riviera Maye coast.
My recommendation would be to do an outing to Isla Mujeres which has pristine beaches without any sea weed at all. Overall, we had a wonderful time and would love to return again!

Visited Ocean Coral for Christmas week 2016. Group size was 17. Accommodations were fairly nice and clean. Was very glad to have four rooms in a row for our families and did not even request it. In the past we've requested same arrangement at other locations and were not granted. A major problem was that the elevator was not working the entire week and I did see a few folks on wheelchairs. Thought this was a safety issue.

Food: All meal accommodations were first come first serve. You had a variety of restaurants to choose from which included a buffet. To our surprise we were able to be seated together for our meals at the buffet. After the first day, the attendants would notice our arrival and would find a location for our seating. Grandkids loved the buffet. It was well stocked and even the picky eaters found a go-to food. Would have loved to see "tamales" as a selection. A Mexican Christmas Eve tradition. There was one higher end restaurant that required a reservation. My husband and I ate there one night. Atmosphere was very nice. Quiet. We both ordered a steak meal and wow, the entire meal was super salty. We were surprised that both meals were so salty. It was even too salty for my husband who happens to like food saltier than most. We had a family commitment right after our meal so we choose not to send them back.

Amenities: Daisy Club was great! The grandkids loved Stephanie and Jessica and wanted to go back every day. Fortunately there was a pool and hammocks located at the Daisy Club so the adults got to stay there with the kids. (We would not leave kids at a Kids club anywhere.) Poolside activities were fun for families. College aged young adults ran them so they were fun, energetic and ambitious. Spa: unfortunately I arrived with a lower back problem. My second day on the beach I was approached by Griselda who was recruiting clients for the spa. I mentioned my lower back and sciatic pain and she recommended I come to the spa and relax in the facility and schedule a massage. I was in much pain and it hindered my ability to sit so I took her up on the offer. Taking her advice I alternated from the hot jet tub to the cool current pool for about 45 minutes. This was followed by an hour massage focusing on lower back and stretching. I felt like a million bucks and was grateful that my vacation had not been ruined by my back issue. Thank you Griselda! She also mentioned that having been a client at the spa, I was also allowed to come back daily to use the facilities. Each morning I continued my own routine of stretching in hot water/cold water treatment. Day five I scheduled another massage with Griselda. When I arrived I was told that someone else would be serving me because Griselda was busy. I was not happy and reluctantly agreed because I was feeling pain again. I regretted it because the massage was nowhere near as good as Griselda's. My $100 poorly spent. I was disappointed and respectfully let the front desk know. I choose not to schedule the last day massages for my daughters and myself.

Service: poolside, restaurant, grounds, etc. Hard working, attentive, polite is how I would describe these employees. Poolside drinks were provided swiftly. Someone by the name of Gabriela could not have been more accommodating to our various orders. She was an excellent server. Thank you Gabriela!

Beach: my grandkids loved the ocean! However, the beach was filthy. Seaweed and plastic debri washed ashore. I was quite surprised and disappointed. This was the case up and down the shoreline and not exclusive to Oceans. It is sickening that humans leave behind a dirty footprint on a beautiful natural resource. No, I am not a tree hugger, I just respect nature. The oddest thing is that in the middle of the afternoon, when the beach was busy, the hotels would choose to have a huge full size John Deere looking tractor dragging the beach to turn over the seaweed and clean the debris. I'm not even sure it was picking up the trash but rather burying it. We had to constantly warn the kids that the tractor was approaching.

Overall we enjoyed our family vacation and appreciated what Ocean Coral had to offer. Not perfect but we made the best of it.

I suppose I should warn about the time share sales team. They are aggressive so be prepared to say no right away. They were ultra kind and welcoming until you said no. Then they finally left you alone. So say no on day 1. We were a bit confused as thought they were part of the Apple Vacation team. We used an Apple Vacation agent for the first time (and last) and they did not make it clear as to what to expect.

We returned almost unwilling after our 10 day stay at the Ocean Coran and Turquesa. It was a beautiful, inviting resort, filled with staff willing to please you. Jose, Miguel, Erik and Enrique, plus the photo staff were all incredible and added to our amazing experience. Our room was beautiful, and the hot tub on the balcony was a hit with our children. Everthing in and around the resort was immaculate, yes even the sea grass that I had read complaints about. The beach was manicured at least 3 times daily, and I never noticed anything other than what you would expect on a beach. The food was superb, and the availability of snacks in the privilege lounge during the day once again was a hit with our children. The nightly entertainment was exactly that, entertaining, and the kids club, which we did not utilize during the day, but at night was exactly what our kids wanted. All our tours were booked through the hotel, with no problems, and they were excellent! We had read some scathing reviews about this resort, but after staying for 10 days, we learned that 1. money can't buy manners and 2. the cliche about some foreign travelers is not so much a cliche. Some people will complain about anything....and so they did. We witnessed deplorable behaviour to the staff from some of these foreigners and in one case I had had it, and actually confronted said individual. If you are reading negative reviews, really look at what they are complaining about, because chances are they would complain if the sun rose 5 minutes after its scheduled rising time. This is a top notch resort, with staff willing to help you out whatever you need, whenever you need it. I would HIGHLY recommend this resort to singles, married couples and families alike. Thank you to all the staff at the Ocean Coral for making our vacation from santa absolutely outstanding!!!!

We had a great time at OCT. Staff was very friendly and we loved the kids club! Our room was clean, nice, and always made up. The view was exceptional! The beach had a lot of seaweed, but not enough to ruin our beach time. They worked tirelessly to keep it picked up. We were able to find some huge shells about knee deep in the water right by the resort.

Questions & answers about the children club

Hi. Yes there is a kids club. Can’t say if it is any good as our kids were 16 and 14 however the entertainment staff were one of the better things at the hotel so my guess would be that it is good. There is adults entertainment every night. It’s ok but is free and is more enthusiastic than talented but it’s fun and something to watch as you relax with a drink or two

Yes they are both closed, they say opening soon. But the kids area looks like it is going to be a while, probably early next year. The Villa Marina is closed also, no idea on opening. Did not see any work for the week we there, but they convert of of the other restaurants at night to cover.
