Tel Aviv, Israel, is located on the western coast of the country on the Mediterranean Sea. Its 400,000 people ranks second in population behind Jerusalem.

The city is historically a sea port, but is now considered the “modern” Israeli city. It is a centre for commerce and technology in Israel and the Middle East.

Tel Aviv has four districts. The South district is the location of the first neighbourhoods upon which the city was constructed. Jaffa is the original port dating back to biblical times. The North district is primarily wealthy suburbs, and the Centre district is home to most of the city’s shopping, entertainment, and commerce.

Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV), or “Natbag”, is the busiest airport in Israel and serves the greater Tel Aviv area. Israel is a small country, however, so most international travellers fly into Tel Aviv to reach most of the other Israeli cities. The airport is a hub for El Al, Arkia Airlines, and Sun d’Or International Airlines.

Ben Gurion serves over 11,000,000 passengers a year flying to destinations around the world. Sun d’Or, El Al, Arkia and Israir Airlines operate the most routes and the most frequent flights. Around 70 airlines fly into and out of Ben Gurion International Airport each year. El Al is the main carrier for the airport, flying approximately ten times as frequently as the next most flown carrier.

The airport is one of the most secure airports in the world and has never allowed a successful plane hijacking. The Israeli Defense Force and airport security tightly patrol every foot of the airport.
