NYU’s Changemaker Center helps students realize the world they want. Through immersive programs, global awards advising, experiential learning, and events, we help students build the skills, knowledge, and networks needed to take action on the issues and within the communities that matter to them.

The Changemaker Center serves students who are seeking to:

  • Understand their identity and values
  • Define a vision for their impact

  • Build skills to actualize their vision

  • Obtain resources and connections to support their goals


Programs and Events

The NYU Changemaker Center hosts various events and houses immersive programs that help students build the skills, networks and knowledge needed to realize the world they want. We are open to all students at NYU and are primarily held in person at the NYU Changemaker Center (12 Washington Place).

Changemaker Collective

For all students

The Collective provides opportunities for students to meet peers with shared interests and engage in conversation around making change. Informal, drop-in gatherings are held once per month and facilitated by the Changemaker Center. The Collective also provides small grants and a space for students to host discussion events, speakers, and panels related to social change.


Changemaker Foundations Series

For all students

A four-unit series that includes skill-building workshops, career-focused workshops to apply the skills learned, and a panel discussion with professionals who are making change in their fields. Choose from a selection of topics and learn at your own pace, no matter your stage of development or interests — attend as many events as you like.


Camp Changemaker

For undergraduate students

Camp Changemaker is an introductory, comprehensive, immersive experience for undergraduate students who are interested in social change and want to build community at NYU. Taking place during spring break, students explore their strengths, develop leadership skills, and identify changemaking opportunities where they can make a future impact in their academic and career pursuits.


Leadership Essentials Course

For all students

Gain key leadership skills on your time and at your pace in a three-part, self-guided series of learning modules. Each learning module takes about 60 minutes to complete including watching all videos, completing the worksheets and the evaluation. The three learning modules are sequenced to build off of one another.


Social Sector Leadership Diversity Fellowship

For graduate students

The NYU Social Sector Leadership Diversity Fellowship (SSLD)  is an 18-month leadership development program that equips graduate students with the skills, knowledge, and networks needed to take up leadership roles in organizations across the social sector, with a focus on centering the experiences, voices, and needs of graduate students of color.


Second-Year Experience Series

For second-year undergraduate students

Embark on an exciting journey into your second year at NYU with our "Second Year Experience" series of events. From the lively 'Year 2 @ NYU Launch Party' marquee event to insightful discussions led by NYU faculty and staff, our events are crafted to celebrate and guide you through your second year. Explore crucial topics, including internships, networking, budgeting, time management, and more, all while connecting with your peers and embracing opportunities in NYC. 


Global Awards Advising

The Office of Global Awards, housed within the NYU Changemaker Center, advises undergraduate students through the application process for a diverse catalogue of scholarships and fellowships. Students can access structured programming and individualized advising for a wide range of external opportunities that provide funding for graduate study, study abroad, independent research, language study, and early professional opportunities.

Social Impact Career Hub

For all students

The Social Impact Career Hub (SICH) assists students in building the skills and network needed to pursue a career that makes a difference. Interested in mission-based work that targets a variety of social justice issues and helps others? Here you can connect with others with similar interests and explore the ways in which you can make a change to the world. Gain access to career coaching sessions, industry resources, career readiness advice, internship, job and networking opportunities, and events to help you explore career options in these areas.


Authoring Your NYU Story

For all undergraduate students

This 1-credit, pass/fail course is designed to help you connect to your story by weaving together an understanding of how you got here, how you can build on where you are, and how you can be the author of your life moving forward. The course will help you make sense of the lived experiences that have brought you to this point, how you want to use your time at NYU, and the contributions you will make to our community and our world.
