Back-Up Care Program for Children

Bright Horizons Back-Up Care helps to cover care gaps during school breaks or when your nanny/babysitter is unavailable.  You can arrange temporary care at home or drop your child off for the day at a child care center or camp program.

PLEASE NOTE: While Bright Horizons will make every effort to accommodate your care requests, availability is not guaranteed, especially when requests are made less than 24 hours in advance. Submitting requests as early as possible gives you the best chance of securing care that matches your preferences. Should Bright Horizons not be able to fulfill your request with a care provider in their network, you will be offered an Out-of-Network reimbursement option instead.

  • The benefit includes up to 10 days of subsidized back-up child care per year.
  • Reservations can be made 60 days in advance for center-based care and in-home care and up to 90 days in advance for camp care.
  • Plan ahead for summer! Bright Horizons has extended their booking window past the typical 90 day timeframe for summer camps. To book, login to your Bright Horizons account, select "Camps for Children > Book Camp > Request Camps" or call Bright Horizons at 877-BH-CARES (877-242-2737)
  • Employee cost for center-based child care: $15 per child or $25 per family per day.
  • Employee cost for in-home child care: $6 per hour (minimum reservation block is 4 hours, not to exceed 10 hours of care in a day).
  • Cancellation policy is 2 business days in advance; if care is canceled due to last-minute vaccination status, faculty and employees should call Bright Horizons to receive credit for the day(s) originally scheduled.

Adult Care Support Planning

Bright Horizons Adult Care* helps you navigate the often complex maze of adult caregiving, providing personalized support from a Care Coach and access to a web-based care planning and communication tool. Get the ongoing support you need with a personal touch, wherever your loved ones may live. The benefit provides:

  • A dedicated and experienced Care Coach to provide you with information and resources near your loved one
  • Coordination of care through an online platform
  • In-home needs assessment, and referrals to legal/financial services

* Please note that Bright Horizons refers to Adult Care as “Elder Care” on their website. NYU uses the language of adult caregiving throughout our benefits portfolio as we are sensitive to avoiding negative age stereotypes implied in terminology that separates adults from elders.
