“We stayed at the TUI Blue Lagoon Princess in Halkidiki in a swim-up room. It was a beautiful hotel, although in the middle of nowhere with nothing to visit nearby."

Our verdict

On Halkidiki’s turquoise Aegean Sea coast, you’ll find a hidden gem for families - the TUI BLUE Lagoon Princess. This luxurious hotel has modern rooms, excellent children's facilities and impressive kids’ clubs, making it a popular choice for families.

As well as tennis in the sunshine, kids will love the outdoor playground, large family pool, and splash pool with multiple water slides, while the TUI mascots Bamse and Captain T are sure to delight younger guests during their daily parade.

With a choice of restaurants and bars, the main Aegean Restaurant serves a hot and cold buffet with plenty of familiar child-friendly options. For a more authentic Greek experience, you also get one included trip to the a la carte Mylos Greek Tavern or you can enjoy beachfront dining at the Green & Grill BBQ Restaurant.

If you fancy splashing out, you can opt for a swim-up room or a junior suite with its own private pool -  a great option if you have younger children who still like to nap in the afternoon.

“It was a brilliant holiday (we don’t usually do all-inclusive) and my 10-year-old still talks about it. The hotel was lovely, with lots of pools, restaurants, night entertainment, and a good beach with water sports. Would use them again.”

Our verdict

If you fancy getting value for money and want lots of dining variety during your family holiday, the TUI Sensatori Blue Hotels offer all the benefits of a TUI Blue hotel with a wider choice of restaurants, allowing you to experience more local and international cuisine.

The TUI Blue Sensatori Atlantica Dreams is a charming family-friendly resort located on the south coast of Rhodes. Built around the ruins of an Ancient Greek Village, it sits directly on a pebble beach scattered with loungers and Bali beds and has accommodation options to suit most all-inclusive budgets, including a range of luxury accommodation choices including swim-up suites and seafront suites with private pools.

With seven bars and six restaurants, families get lots of choice at mealtimes. In addition to the Masogios main buffet restaurant with theme nights and a child-friendly (and lower height) buffet station, guests can also dine at three of the specialist restaurants each week. Options include Italian cuisine at Caprice, traditional Greek food at Kuzina and tasty American classics at Liberty.

There are two main pools and an activity pool where if you’re brave enough, you can test your skills at aqua balance board classes. Children will also love the splash park slides and sprinklers - a great way to cool off from the late afternoon heat.

The TUI kids’ clubs are highly rated, with a well-planned activity programme to suit children from babies to 12 years of age. The fun character T-Bots bring shows, music, dancing and games to life, while the evenings include quality tribute acts, live music and comedians suitable for the whole family.

Best for exploring

TUI Blue Elounda Breeze, Elounda, Lassithi Avea, Crete

What we like
  • Well-maintained resort with stunning views

  • Choice of pools and a fun splash park for kids

  • Three restaurants

What we don't like
  • Beach is a 10-minute walk away

  • Hillside setting is less suited to those with mobility issues

  • Long transfer time - you may want to arrange a private transfer

What Mumsnet users say

“We stayed in Elounda last year, which we liked a lot - nice busy town, lots of restaurants & boat trips, though we had a hire car for trips out too. There are resorts up the coast but I think they're quite expensive.”

We have been to Elounda a few times with children from the age of one and it’s very child-friendly. Would recommend a taxi from the airport though as the transfer (if booking a package) can be very long.”

Our verdict

On Crete’s northwestern coast, TUI Blue Elounda Breeze may take a while to get to from the airport but its elevated coastline setting and incredible views make the journey worthwhile.

As well as the two main outdoor pools, children will enjoy the shallow pool and baby pool, however, by far the biggest draw is the brightly coloured splash pad, with a tipping bucket, toadstool waterfalls and a selection of high-speed water slides (for children over 130cm tall).

Designed for kids aged three to 11 years, the TUI Blue kids’ clubs provide up to two hours of themed activities, six days a week. Children are grouped by age to encourage friendships and ensure age-appropriate fun.

During the day, dedicated sports and activity hosts offer family-focused games, activities and sports, while in the evening you’ll find mini discos and live performances from TUI’s talented entertainment team.

At the main buffet restaurant, children are encouraged to take part in the Healthy Eating Challenge, earning stickers for each healthy new dish they try, but for more fussy eaters, the dedicated children’s section will appeal. Families can also enjoy one complimentary visit to a choice of two a la carte restaurants including local flavours at La Taverna or grilled meat, fish and vegetables at the authentic Green and Grill.

Note that due to its hillside setting, there are some steep sections between facilities, making this hotel less suited to those with mobility issues.

  • Some activities for kids are charged separately

“We stayed at the Tui Sensatori Atlantica Caldera in 2020 and it was lovely, great staff, very clean, good food and the kids pool was fun.”

Our verdict

On Crete’s north coast, TUI BLUE Sensatori Atlantica Caldera Palace offers contemporary good looks and a prime position by the soft-and-sandy Lyttos Beach.

It may look like a gorgeous grown-up hotel but it's incredibly welcoming to kids of all ages; there are separate zones for adults and families and you'll find fancy swim-up suites dotting the resort.

Food fans will love trying out the eight restaurants (including traditional Greek, Japanese, Thai and Tex Mex) and there's a cafe for kids that love to snack.

Five pools should keep everyone busy and little ones will love the splash pool with water jets, slides and tipping buckets. If you can make use of the on-site kids' clubs it's well worth heading to the adults-only pool for a spot of relaxing on one of the in-water loungers. Or book a slot at the spa for an indulgent treatment (it also offers treatments for kids too including mini massages and teen facials).

The wide-ranging kids' clubs are staffed by qualified childcare experts and offer activities to suit everyone from babies to 12-year-olds. And there's lots of family fun in the evenings with dancing, games, tribute acts and professional shows.

Best for a short airport transfer

TUI Blue Family Hotel and Apartments Marmari Beach, Kos

What we like
  • Mini golf course

  • By the beach with a boardwalk for easy access

  • Three large pools including one with waterslides

  • Short transfer time

What we don't like
  • Very quiet hotel which may not suit those looking for a livelier pace in the evenings

“We went to Marmari in Kos last year and was fab. My daughter was six. We hired a car for two days for about £50 with car seats etc and the island is really easy to get around. We explored loads. Other beaches. Kos town. Went into the hills/villages for food then nice beach/pool at our hotel to chill out on.”

Our verdict

Travelling with children can be challenging, so a short transfer time can certainly help take the stress out of a family holiday. Situated on the northwest coast of the beautiful Greek island of Kos, Marmari Beach is a quiet resort facing a long stretch of beautiful beach and it’s just 15 minutes’ from Kos Airport and the capital, Kos Town so you’re ideally placed for exploring more of the island.

With two kids' pools and a partially shaded baby pool, children will love the thrill of the adrenaline-fueled water slide and flume (subject to minimum height restrictions).

Kids’ clubs run six days a week and are split into age groups with activities tailored for each. Minis Club is suitable for children aged 3 to 5 years, while Maxis Club caters for children aged 6 to 11 years. Your little ones will love learning how to make pizza and fruit salad with Captain T at TUI’s fun cooking classes, while families can also enjoy sports such as volleyball, ping pong and tennis battles on the hotel’s court.

As you’d expect from a TUI Blue resort, dining options are varied, with plenty of choice for children no matter how picky they may be at meal times. The main buffet offers both local cuisine and family favourites, while the American diner a la carte restaurant is likely to prove a hit with the kids - you get one visit included during your stay.

Nearest airport: Kos Airport (7 miles)

What’s included in the price of a TUI BLUE hotel stay?

The exact package will vary depending on the resort, however, most TUI BLUE holidays are all-inclusive, including meals and snacks at the main buffet restaurant, as well as soft drinks and a selection of alcoholic options. Many TUI Blue stays also include one complimentary visit to the a la carte restaurant on site, and depending on the resort, this could be one other choice (usually the Taverna) or a selection of cuisines to choose from. Reassuringly, responsible drinking is encouraged at these family resorts, so you can expect some limitations on the amount of alcoholic drinks served.

Most TUI Blue resorts offer an extensive entertainment package including free kids' clubs, sports facilities and evening entertainment, although some specific activities (such as sports and equipment hire) may incur an additional charge.

Do all TUI BLUE hotels feature kids’ clubs?

While TUI Blue hotels are designed for families, they also understand that grown-ups deserve a bit of a break too. With each resort offering a range of childcare options, from a baby creche (chargeable) to free kids’ clubs for children aged 3-11, they’re a great way for adults to get some alone time while children make friends and enjoy age-appropriate activities.

Teenagers aren’t ignored either, with a less structured Hangout for children aged 12-16 providing some independence and the chance to meet other teens during their stay

What’s the best TUI BLUE hotel for families in Greece?

The TUI Blue Lagoon Princess is our top pick for the best TUI Blue resort in Greece. While it doesn’t come cheap and is in a relatively quiet location, the beachside setting, fun splash pools, excellent kids’ clubs and choice of dining options make it a great all-rounder for the majority of families.
