“In Corralejo the Barcelo Sands is lovely” - recommended by Mumsnet user, Pieceofpurplesky

Our verdict

Right in the centre of Corralejo, Barcelo Corralejo Sands is ideally located for the resort’s popular bars, shops and restaurants. Our verdict

If you prefer to swim away from the hustle and bustle of screaming kids and inflatables, the Costa Caleta Hotel & Oasis Park has a choice of four pools, including two plunge pools on a quieter rooftop terrace. Neilson La Pared Beachclub

Check availability: Neilson

What Mumsnet users say

"[Our Neilson holiday] was amazing! If you added up the cost of hiring bikes / kayaks / paddle boards etc 2 or 3 times a day (which realistically is what you'll end up doing at Neilsons) then it is well worth the money. The kids clubs are great, they were on the go all the time." Coronationstation

Our verdict

Barcelo Fuerteventura Mar (previously Thalasso Spa Hotel), Calete de Fuste

Check availability: Booking.com | TUI

What Mumsnet users say

"We went a couple of years ago and loved it. Good rooms (excellent two-bedroom family suites which for our dates were not much more than a standard room), lovely grounds and pools next to the beach. The all-inclusive option worked well. Not overly fancy (i.e not top-end 5-star, luxury hotels of the world category) but a v.decent solid 3 - 4 star option" -  recommended by Mumsnetter, Mummyandmeguru

Our verdict

Fully refurbished in 2021 and situated on Caleta de Fuste beach, the proximity of this hotel to El Castilo bay makes it a great location for those who want to head to the beach and benefit from the Atlantic breeze with some high-energy watersports.

You can take your pick from the three saltwater swimming pools, one aimed specifically at children and if you fancy some child-free time during your visit, the Barry Club has an extensive entertainment programme for children aged 4-12 years.

When it comes to dining, you can certainly mix it up and rotate between the buffet restaurant, pool snack bar, and a la carte restaurants serving Mexican and Italian dishes. There’s even a show cooking area for sampling fresh meat and fish, taking full advantage of Canarian cuisine and themed dinners.

9. Best for teenagers: Elba Sara Caleta de Fuse, Caleta de Fuste

Elba Sara Caleta de Fuse, Calete de Fuste

Check availability: Booking.com | TUI

What Mumsnet users say

“Elba Sara in Caleta de Fuste is brilliant. We had adjoining rooms last year and it felt like lots of space. Nearly all the rooms have sea views, the entertainment is great and there's a gate out to the promenade and beach. We loved our stay there and have been struggling since to find anywhere else that looks as good” - recommended by Mumsnet user, rallytog1

Our verdict

If you’re travelling with older children or teens and want to avoid the dreaded exclamations of “I’m bored”, Elba Sara is well equipped to entertain children of all ages, including tweens and teens.

With separate pools for adults and children, as well as a jacuzzi and water beds, you can soak up the sun during the day, while younger children may opt to head to the mini club which offers both daytime and evening entertainment.

From golf to tennis, mountain biking and Nordic walking, older children and teens can dabble with surfing, kite surfing, snorkelling and even paragliding, all from the easily accessible Elba beach.

Is Fuerteventura good for families?

Absolutely. The second largest of the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura offers a relatively short flight time of around 4-5 hours from the UK and makes an excellent family-friendly destination.

With pretty much guaranteed beautiful weather all year round, children will love the expansive sandy beaches for building sandcastles and paddling in the sea, while the Atlantic breeze can make temperatures more manageable in the summer months.

With all resorts offering relatively short transfer times, your family can spend less time on a coach or taxi and more time enjoying their holiday. What’s not to like about that?

What’s the most popular resort in Fuerteventura?

Located in the north of the island, Corralejo is the most popular resort in Fuerteventura and for good reason. With beautiful beaches and a great variety of shops, bars, nightlife and entertainment, Corralejo is also home to a popular water park which makes a great family-friendly day out.

For those with younger children, Caleta de Fuste is a popular choice. It’s so close to the airport that you don’t need to worry about restless overtired children during the transfer.

What’s the best family-friendly hotel in Fuerteventura?

For its central location, proximity to local attractions and a wide choice of activities and entertainment for children (and adults!) of all ages, Barcelo Corralejo Sands has something to offer everyone, however, relaxing (or high energy) you like your holiday to be.

How we chose our recommendations

We spent several hours sifting through Mumsnet's forums for recommendations from our users on the family hotels in Fuerteventura they rate most highly. We were also on the lookout for poor reviews of hotels to avoid.

We consulted recommendations from experts, consumer websites and travel publications and made sure we included hotels that regularly appeared in the top 10 lists.

We then looked at reviews for each of our longlisted family hotels to check that previous visitors were satisfied with their stay.

By doing this, we whittled our longlist down and chose a selection of hotels that we think offer something for everybody.
