The wearable breast pump market has exploded in recent years, with the top brands competing to launch the latest innovative, hands-free devices to make those long, tied-to-the-sofa pumping sessions a thing of the past. Designed to offer breastfeeding mums the ultimate in discreet, silent and comfortable pumping whenever and wherever they want, the MAM Move is one such pump. We asked parent-tester Kayla, who has been pumping exclusively for her newborn up to eight times a day since birth, to put it to the test.

Overall rating:
What we like
  • Very comfortable

  • Has a silent mode for extra discretion

  • Tester reported practically no leakage in use

  • Lots of useful pieces of kit comes with it, including a baby bottle and carry bag

What we don't like
  • Auto pumping time is 30 minutes - our tester said she would have preferred this to be 20 minutes with the option of adding time (in accordance with pumping guidelines)

  • Our tester said she would have liked an LED countdown function

How we tested the MAM Move Wearable Breast Pump

Our tester Kayla may only have been a parent for a matter of weeks, but due to exclusively pumping for her newborn up to eight times a day, she has fast become something of an expert in all things breast pump related.

She used the MAM Move to express milk eight times a day during the testing period, taking rigorous notes on several factors including comfort, discretion, durability, ease of washing and value for money. She then provided an overall rating and verdict on the pump based on whether she would recommend it to other breastfeeding mothers.

How ‘hands-free’ is the MAM Move?

MAM Move Breast Pump

The pump is designed to be wearable and it absolutely is. While it is slightly heavier than other pumps I’ve used in the past, it fits very well in my bra once the bra straps have been adjusted. This allows for hands-free use.

How noisy is the MAM Move pump?

Another huge selling point of the MAM Move is its silent mode, offering users the ultimate in discreet pumping with noise levels of under 50dB. Kayla said she found just the standard pumping mode to be “not at all noisy” and added that she would be very comfortable to use the pump while out and about, at work and on public transport.

How do you clean the MAM Move?

All the pump parts which come into contact with breast milk are dishwasher and steriliser-safe. Kayla said that she found the pump very easy to clean and that the pump showed no signs of fading after sterilisation.

Does the MAM Move represent good value for money?

Retailing at £199 for a single and up to £350 for a double, the MAM Move is a big purchase for new parents - though in terms of wearable pumps, it is far from the most expensive around. As an exclusively pumping mum, Kayla said she thought the MAM Move double was worth it.

You save yourself so much time being able to pump hands free and you’re not restricted to sitting for 20 to 30 minutes at a time.

The MAM Move Breast Pump: overall verdict

There’s a lot about the MAM Move which makes it a worthy contender for one of the best wearable breast pumps currently on the market. We like all the different elements which come included, the inclusivity of the different sizing options and the fact that the soft silicone funnel make it comfortable to use - even in the earliest (and arguably most sensitive) weeks of breast pumping. Kayla reported that not only was it “by far the most comfortable” of all the pumps she’s used, she added that there was hardly any leakage (“a first for me!”).

“I would recommend this pump to others. It was very easy to clean, it’s sturdy and well-made and being able to pump hands-free just saves so much time!”

We asked Kayla to score the MAM Move Breast Pump for the following out of five:

Comfort:
Durability:
Discretion:
Value for money:
Practicality:
