Last week, the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders hosted an Economic Summit at Metro State University in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The SBA Minnesota District Office was in attendance alongside SBA Great Lakes Regional Administrator Geri Sanchez Aglipay and participated in panels and workshops throughout the event. U.S. Small Business Administration’s Deputy Administrator Dilawar Syed provided opening remarks, highlighting SBA’s commitment to empowering underserved communities by connecting them directly with resources to help them start, grow, and succeed. WHIAANHPI’s mission is to drive an ambitious, whole-of-government agenda to advance equity, justice, and opportunity for AA and NHPI communities. The SBA Minnesota District Office was excited to host SBA Deputy Administrator Dilawar Syed and SBA Great Lakes Regional Administrator Geri Sanchez Aglipay for a business visit to Primrose School in Edina, MN. Deputy Administrator Syed met with business owner, Saleem Karmaliani, and toured the facility. The visit also included a conversation with Rob Appelhof, owner of Cedar Creek Energy, who supplied and installed solar panels at Primrose. SBA Deputy Administrator Syed also discussed with the owners the important priority to democratize access to capital under the Biden-Harris Administration. The visit emphasized SBA’s commitment to investing in America’s small businesses that provide critical products and services, and contribute to the vibrancy and livability of communities across the state. “We’re really meeting owners like Saleem and Rob where they’re at with the financing that they otherwise may not have gotten,” Aglipay said. “That’s truly investing in America: helping everyday, small business owners like them.” https://lnkd.in/g6n3sf_7 Brian McDonald, Chris Wicker, MBA

The second regional economic summitt happened in the SBA Great Lakes Region 5 where the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (WHIAANHPI) continued its summit series through a historic agreement the U.S. Small Business Administration WHIAANHPI and National ACE! 📍Close to 500 people registered for the WHIAANHPI summit in #StPaul, where U.S. Small Business Administration Deputy Administrator Dilawar Syed kicked off the federal agency welcome! He highlighted the Biden-Harris Administration’s resources and investments to support AA & NHPI communities, meeting them where they are at, and democratizing access to capital. 🇺🇸 SBA Deputy Administrator Dilawar Syed closed out his day by participating in a town hall with the #Somali American community in Bloomington, MN moderated by Amran Farah, former President of the Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers and the co-founder and former president of the Somali American Bar Association. During the townhall, Deputy Administrator Syed offered to collaborate more closely with the community on ways the SBA can better serve them. #MINNESOTA -- The Biden-Harris Administration has kept its commitment to small businesses by improving access to capital and Administrator Guzman’s continued leadership of U.S. Small Business Administration through a historic period of economic growth. SBA Deputy Administrator Dilawar Syed met with Saleem Karmaliani owner of Primrose Schools and childcare in Edina, MN and toured the facility. They discussed how President Biden’s *Investing in America Economic Agenda* supports small childcare businesses and diverse working families in Minnesota, especially and how childcare owners can receive no-cost business development assistance from both SBA Women’s Business Centers in Minnesota, given the SBA Womens’ Business Centers’ program additional emphasis to help strengthen childcare business operations. 👉 In recognition of the vibrancy of the small business ecosystem driving our American economy, Deputy Administrator Dilawar Syed's visit at Primrose also included meeting Rob Appelhof Rob Appelhof onsite, owner of Cedar Creek Energy small business. Cedar Creek Energy supplied and installed Primrose solar panels at Primrose. Of note, both Cedar Creek and Primrose benefitted from SBA support and financing to support a green and energy secure economy. Deputy Administrator Syed also met with non-profit CDC lender for Primrose’s SBA loan Amplio Executive Director Jonathan Sage-Martinson. Under the Biden-Harris Administration, small businesses are buying, making, and selling their products in America – products and providing critical services that we not only love and enjoy, but that we also depend on in our daily lives.
