This week the White House launched the U.S. Global Health Security Strategy (GHSS), signaling a strong commitment to protecting lives and economic well-being worldwide. We thank the White House for including the Private Sector Roundtable on Global Health Security (PSRT) as a key partner to help achieve the goals in their strategy. This strategy emphasizes: 1. Strengthening partnerships with 50 countries to boost global health security capacities. 2. Catalyzing political commitment and financing for health security leadership. 3. Maximizing impact by linking health security with complementary programs.   Businesses are crucial partners in advancing global health security. We look forward to collaborating with the U.S. government on ways that the private sector can support U.S. global health security strategies. The PSRT is pleased to see the launch this week of the Foreign Ministry Channel for Global Health Security, spearheaded by Ambassador Dr. John Nkengasong and joined by representatives from 19 countries and 2 multilateral organizations.    This initiative highlights the vital nexus between health security and national security priorities, emphasizing the imperative for collaboration across sectors.     Businesses play a critical role in advancing global health security objectives, and we reiterate our call for the private sector to be integrated into a whole of society approach to #pandemicpreparedness – not just called upon in emergency response. We welcome the Foreign Ministry Channel for Global Health Security to collaborate with the private sector in our collective efforts to strengthen our resilience against future pandemics and foster a healthier, safer world for everyone. #PSRT #GlobalHealthSecurity #OneHealth  

Last week, Kevin Lass from the PSRT Secretariat team delivered an intervention at the Global Health Security Agenda Leadership Meeting 2024, where the new #GHSA Framework 2028 was announced.    The PSRT emphasized support for the new framework, which underscores how cross-sector partnerships are essential in mitigating the social and economic consequences of health emergencies.  From significant investments in R&D for vaccines and medicines to strengthening supply chains for last mile delivery and data analytics, the private sector has been a strong collaborator with communities, governments, civil society, and multilateral institutions to address global health emergencies.     As a permanent steering committee member of the GHSA, the PSRT will continue to support the GHSA targets of building health system capacity to address post-pandemic gaps in more than 100 countries through collaboration and partnership. The PSRT hosted a terrific conversation with Michael Griffin, Strategy and Partnership Manager at the World Health Organization, about how the WHO can better engage the private sector around #supplychain preparedness and #globalhealthsecurity. Mike highlighted the experience of the COVID-19 pandemic and the urgent need for greater visibility into where essential supplies are located to ensure quicker access. The PSRT looks forward to continuing this important discussion. It is critical for the business community to collaborate closely with the WHO and other multilateral and government agencies in advance of a health emergency to ensure a more effective response nationally, regionally and globally – saving lives and maintaining stability. #PandemicPPR #publicprivatepartnerships

Last week, our PSRT Chair, Allison Cohen Neale, delivered a statement at the UN General Assembly High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response (PPPR). We urged member states to directly engage with the private sector, before a disaster strikes. The business community’s distinct and wide-ranging capabilities are essential to improve countries and regions’ preparedness for health emergencies – in addition to helping ensure a timely, effective, and equitable response. At #UNGA78's roundtable on #gender and Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (#PPPR), the PSRT demonstrated the value of engaging the private sector to improve the current state of gender issues and gender differentiated impacts on health systems. Audrey Jackson, Ph.D., Director, Global Public Health Policy at Johnson & Johnson discussed J&J's programs with community health workers in Africa, and underscored that prioritizing and strengthening health workforce is essential, considering that 70% of health workers are women. Janis Davis-Street, Manager, Global Public Health and Special Projects at Chevron, reinforced the importance of working with employers to amplify public health communication and support women in the health workforce.
