Advocacy and awareness are important aspects of #PrideMonth, though stigma and shame are still creating barriers to access to PrEP for many Canadians, particularly those in marginalized communities. Listen to Ken Monteith, Executive Director of COCQ-SIDA discuss why marginalized Canadians are seeing increasing impacts of HIV. https://lnkd.in/e9mEaE3E #CdnHealth #HIVAIDS

In 2022, the Government of Canada committed global targets of zero new HIV infections, zero AIDS deaths, and zero stigma and discrimination by 2030. With only six years to go, Canada is further away from this goal than when we committed. How can we increase uptake of PrEP and other person-centric options for at-risk groups? In honour of #PrideMonth, listen to Patrick O'Byrne, Nurse Practitioner and Full Professor of Nursing at the University of Ottawa, talk about stigma and the lessons learned from the initial roll-out PrEP. https://lnkd.in/eqc5-YmE #CdnHealth #HIVAIDS

On National Indigenous People's Day, Santis recognizes the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities across Canada. We are committed to learning and working with Indigenous organizations and groups to improve health care outcomes and promote equity in our health system. We recognize the unique challenges faced by Indigenous peoples and strive to support initiatives that respect and integrate traditional knowledge, healing practices and values, such as the Indigenous Medicine Wheel, which teaches us that true health encompasses the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of life. We invite you to watch this short teaching on the Indigenous Medicine Wheel here: https://lnkd.in/ecHYVBuk

Access to PrEP, a once-a-day pill that reduces the risk of HIV transmission by 99% if taken consistently, is key to reducing transmissions. As part of #PrideMonth, Mia Biondi, Assistant Professor and the Nurse Practitioner program coordinator at York University School of Nursing, talks about the challenges of expanding the use of PrEP in communities that haven’t seen uptake in the past. https://lnkd.in/et9yq84Y #CdnHealth #HIVAIDS

Canada is experiencing an HIV crisis and we’re moving in the wrong direction. With #PrideMonth upon us, Santis Health worked alongside Gilead Sciences Canada to curate a discussion on the state of HIV in the country. HIV/AIDS saw an 11.3% increase of transmissions in 2021. PrEP is a once-a-day pill that reduces the risk of transmission by 99% if taken consistently, yet only one in ten people that could benefit are using it. In our latest podcast, Danielle Flieler is joined by Patrick O’Byrne, Nurse Practitioner and Full Professor of Nursing at the University of Ottawa, Mia Bondi, Assistant Professor and the Nurse Practitioner program coordinator at York University School of Nursing, and Ken Monteith, Executive Director of COCQ-SIDA to discuss how Canada can reach its goal of no new HIV transmissions by 2030. https://lnkd.in/eKmBd2-9 #CdnHealth #HIVAIDS
