Today we’re at Rice University for the first day of the Tapia Center STEM CCS Camps! This is the kickoff of four weeks of camps at Rice that will see almost 1,000 students, educators, community leaders and ExxonMobil employees take part in and directly support project-based learning activities. Over the course of this week, campers will hear a presentation on why CO₂ and STEM are important to our everyday lives, build CO₂ reservoir models, create and give presentations on what they’ve learned, and embark on a field trip to Space Center Houston – with overall goals to learn more about CCS, STEM, communication and equity. We’re proud to share that our East Providence Terminal has been recognized by the Wildlife Habitat Council for our conservation efforts! Valentin Brito, M.S., Environmental Advisor, recently attended the annual conference to receive the award. Being WHC certified means we’ve maintained activities offering ongoing benefit to biodiversity and people. Since 2020 we’ve partnered with local organizations such as The Audubon Society, Narragansett Bay Coyote Study and the Little Rhody Beekeeping pollinator study, to name a few. #WeAreExxonMobil

Poster presentations were the final event of the day at the Southern University and A&M College- Baton Rouge Tapia Center STEM CCS Camp. Students have taken time throughout the week to research and develop posters showcasing their understanding of CCS, using their reservoir projects as examples. These presentations were then judged by ExxonMobil and Denbury representatives as well as university faculty and special guests. Today was the Southern University and A&M College- Baton Rouge Tapia Center STEM CCS Camp Engineering Challenge! In this contest, students explore carbon capture and storage using safe, non-toxic household materials like Play-Doh, pasta or beans, water and vegetable oil. They build model underground salt-water reservoirs, and the goal is to inject as much vegetable oil, representing liquid carbon dioxide, as possible. #STEM #CCS #SouthernUniversity #RiceTapiaCenter
