ExxonMobil Joliet is a major economic generator in the region whose employees support our community in many ways.
About us
The Joliet Refinery is located 40 miles southwest of Chicago, Ill. Built in 1972, the Joliet facility is one of the newest refineries in the United States and is ideally located to receive and process Canadian crude oil delivered by pipeline. The characteristics of Canadian crude require specialized refinery equipment and processes and the Joliet Refinery was designed with this purpose in mind. Today the refinery is equipped to handle 250,000 barrels of crude per day, producing about 9 million gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel every day. That daily production is enough to drive an average car around the world more than 7,000 times. These fuels and other refinery products are transported from the refinery to consumers primarily across the Midwest. The refinery uses state-of-the-art technology to process crude safely, reliably and efficiently. Safety is fundamental at the Joliet Refinery, where we have a simple goal: “Nobody gets hurt.” The Joliet Refinery is also among the most energy-efficient refineries of its size in the country, and is striving to be on par with European standards for energy efficiency. The refinery’s energy efficiency comes in part from two key technologies. Through cogeneration, energy produced in the course of refining is captured and converted into electricity, heat or steam to be used as power. Using heat integration, units at the refinery collect heat and recycle it back into the refining process to ensure smooth operations. Running an energy-efficient refinery results in lower operating costs and significantly reduced emissions. The Joliet Refinery Fire Brigade comprises more than 100 employee volunteers who undergo continuous rigorous training to ensure world-class response capabilities. We work and train closely with the cities of Elwood and Joliet to coordinate mutual aid and off-site assistance, helping to safeguard our employees, contractors, neighbors and facilities. Our response teams routinely test emergency notification equipmen

It was a pleasure meeting all of these amazing students and future energy leaders!
🌟 CISTAR NSF Engineering Research Center REM students had an incredible, action-packed day visiting two sites to learn more about developments in the energy sector! A huge thank you to the ExxonMobil Joliet refinery team for educating our students. It was invaluable to hear from the young engineers as they shared their stories and answered questions from the group. Special thanks to Pete Colarelli and his team for providing an insightful overview and engaging discussion about the energy transition. 📣 Shout out to Matt Jahns for being an excellent guide for the refinery tour. 🌟 Next stop on our trip: Constellation's Braidwood Clean Energy Center. Many thanks to Sharon A. Johnson for facilitating our visit and the whole team for educating the students about nuclear power and its important role in the energy transition. 💡 The tour was enlightening, providing us with a deep appreciation for the industry and the responsibilities of everyone involved. #CISTAR #EnergySector #STEM #Education #EnergyTransition #NuclearPower #REM National Society of Black Engineers Fabio Ribeiro Denise Driscoll Garrett Beene Kirsten (Ivkovic) Edwards Tommy Phan Ryan Hutchison

Today, we are pleased to announce our latest agreement with Air Liquide to support production of low-carbon hydrogen and low-carbon ammonia at our facility in Baytown, Texas, where we have what is planned to be the world’s largest hydrogen production facility. The agreement will enable transportation of low-carbon hydrogen from the Baytown facility through Air Liquide’s existing pipeline network. We aim to enable the growth of a low-carbon hydrogen market along the U.S. Gulf Coast to help industrial customers decarbonize their operations. To help reduce the project’s carbon footprint, Air Liquide will build and use low-carbon electricity to operate Large Modular Air separation units (LMAs) to supply 9,000 metric tons of oxygen and 6,500 metric tons of nitrogen daily to the Baytown facility. "Momentum continues to build for the world’s largest low-carbon hydrogen project and the emerging hydrogen market. This partnership with Air Liquide strengthens our Baytown project by enabling hydrogen distribution through existing networks and securing key feedstocks.” -- Dan Ammann, President, ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solutions Access the press release here: https://lnkd.in/gh-irSbm Learn more about the low-carbon hydrogen progress we’re making in Baytown: https://lnkd.in/giqgHRqm hashtag #realworldprogress hashtag #hydrogen hashtag #lowcarbonhydrogen hashtag #lowcarbonammonia hashtag #ammonia https://lnkd.in/gh-irSbm

Happy #Juneteenth from Team Joliet! Today marks the historic day on which federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865, bringing freedom to all enslaved people and marking the end of slavery in the United States. It is a day of celebration, a reminder of the struggle for freedom, an opportunity for education, and a time for cultural appreciation.

This #MemorialDay we remember and honor those who courageously gave their lives. Thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice to keep us free.

Play Ball! ExxonMobil was recognized at Opening Day for the Belmont Little League for its support of their baseball and softball field restoration projects. The fields were in such bad condition that opposing teams would rather forfeit their games than play on the fields. Special thanks to ExxonMobil's Enrique Arias for leading the project teams over the years. Joliet City Council & Belmont Board member Cesar Cardenas and Illinois State Representative Larry Walsh, Jr. were on hand to celebrate with players, fans and family members.
