On July 5, 1950, Texas Governor Allan Shivers gave the state’s replica of the Liberty Bell to Texas A&M, to thank and honor Aggies who served in World War II. While most Liberty Bell replicas hang in state capitol buildings, Gov. Shivers honored Aggieland with this gift, stating, "No one suffered more than the Aggies, so we will give it to them." Today, the bell is suspended in the rotunda of the Academic Building!

Texas A&M's Department of Atmospheric Sciences has partnered with Climavision to install the new radar to redefine how students, faculty, and the community study and respond to weather patterns. The new radar will replace the Aggie Doppler Radar (ARAD) which has played a crucial role in supporting the National Weather Service and monitoring the weather across Texas for several decades. tx.ag/WeatherRadar

Last week, the George & Barbara Bush Foundation celebrated the 100th Birthday of President George H.W. Bush with 41@100 here in Aggieland. The family of President Bush enjoyed the festivities from the ground to the air! The community concluded the centennial celebration with a concert featuring Lyle Lovett '79 and Robert Earl Keen '78.

Today, we celebrate the remarkable legacy of President George H. W. Bush on what would have been his 100th birthday. “Public service is a noble calling,” he said to all Americans, and Aggies take that to heart. His exemplary leadership and dedication to selfless service align with Texas A&M’s Core Values, it’s why he chose Aggieland to house his presidential library. His legacy continues through the Bush School, where students learn to follow in his footsteps as dedicated public servants. Thank you, President Bush, for inspiring all of us to lead with integrity and serve selflessly.

While en route to Florida, aboard the TS Kennedy, Texas A&M Maritime Academy student cadets William Flores ’24 and Kai Ethridge ’26 spotted a small vessel in distress and initiated rescue protocols. In coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard, cadets and professional crew rescued the three boaters that had been adrift for 15 days in the Gulf of Mexico. Their quick thinking, leadership and initiative played a major role in saving the lives of others. “Being a part of something like this was an amazing experience,” Flores said. “The actions of the captain and crew definitely saved the lives onboard." http://tx.ag/Rescue24

On June 9, 2008, Mike Fossum '80 and his fellow astronauts aboard the International Space Station woke up to the Spirit of Aggieland. After the song, Fossum shared some kind words about his family and Texas A&M. Fossum joined Texas A&M following his retirement from NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration – Johnson Space Center in 2017. Colonel (RET.) Fossum is now serving as a Vice President of Texas A&M, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Texas A&M University Galveston Campus , and the Superintendent of the Texas A&M Maritime Academy.
