I don't know what Ida Rademacher and Joanna Smith-Ramani were thinking. They thought it would be a good idea to invite this slightly crazy person to speak at Aspen Ideas and discuss generational wealth and ownership. It was a blast and a truly meaningful conversation thanks to the awesomeness of my amazing panelists - Dara Eskridge, Kristy Williams Fercho, and Damien Dwin. But I hope the recording never comes out. That would be a career limiting move.

Thanks to a Tech Hub Phase 2 Implementation grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce, our friends and partners at Elevate Quantum have unlocked $127M in federal and state funding to grow Colorado's quantum technology workforce. This award followed an extensive application and review process, which our team at Gary was proud to play a role in funding, with Julie Stone and Jill Hawley leading the way. By 2030, Elevate Quantum reports this funding will help create more than 10,000 high-paying, stable quantum jobs, many of which can be accessed with highly accessible credential programs like the ones offered by Front Range Community College. I mostly use AI to help me with dad jokes (or impact investing jokes). But, this dude can gently drop a hat on your head when you are walking in a NYC sidewalk. The AI future is going to be unreal!

It's ironic that over the past few decades, philanthropic endowments in the US have grown dramatically, with private foundation assets now totaling $1.1 trillion. Yet, during this same period, the racial wealth gap has significantly widened. Foundations can't afford to sit this one out. myfriendben began as a curiosity and a experiment with Gary Community Ventures, and within a year, it is transforming the future of public benefits access in Colorado and beyond. A true testament to the Gary model of "let's keep trying and keep taking risks" in order to make systems work better for those struggling the most. Kudos to the amazing team -- Brian Hiatt, Elise Henson, Rebecca Peterson, PMP and the rest of the MFB crew!
