I mostly use AI to help me with dad jokes (or impact investing jokes). But, this dude can gently drop a hat on your head when you are walking in a NYC sidewalk. The AI future is going to be unreal!

President at HW Media | Building the go-to media and information services platform for housing professionals
Today's Ten Minute Talk is with Steve Gaenzler, CFA, SVP of Innovation and Strategy at homegenius, a Radian company. A lot of times when I chat with housing executives about AI, I'm left wondering if the technology will really have a meaningful impact on the homebuying process. This wasn't the case after my conversation with Steve. He gives really tangible examples in our conversation, and will share more at HousingWire's The Gathering next week. A clever chap in New York City has taken window shopping to new heights—quite literally! Using a Raspberry Pi, some yarn, and a dash of AI, he's created a system to drop propeller hats onto willing passersby from his flat window. This playful project combines computer vision, a booking system, and a bit of engineering to deliver hats to customers on-demand. While some might see it as a frivolous use of technology, I'd argue it's a brilliant example of creative problem-solving and the joy of tinkering. The discussion around this invention has been fascinating: - Some lauded it as delightfully whimsical and the epitome of "pun-driven development" - Others pondered the legal and safety implications of dropping objects from windows - A few saw potential for similar concepts, like aerial bead-tossing in New Orleans - Many debated whether it truly qualifies as "AI" or if it's clever marketing Regardless of where you stand, it's hard not to smile at the sheer absurdity and ingenuity. In a world often bogged down by serious tech talk, isn't it refreshing to see someone use their skills for a bit of good fun? What do you think? Is this the future of retail, or just a daft idea? And what would you like to see dropped from windows in your city? (Gently, of course!) https://dropofahat.zone/ #AI #Innovation #CreativeTech #WindowShopping

AI is only as strong as the magnitude of the data set or scale of units it has trained with. This makes it essential to choose solutions that are reliable and accurate. Here are a few key factors to consider when seeking out the right AI solution to optimize your property management operations and needs: ✅Prioritize Reliability: Choose AI solutions with a proven track record, serving hundreds of thousands of units over at least a year. Trust experience and scale. ✅Understand AI's Limits: Multifamily environments are people-centric, and AI isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. Seek companies with established customer bases and credible references. ✅Demand Real Data: Avoid shortcuts like generative AI trained on unverified internet data. Insist on solutions built with real market data and extensive resident interactions. Thank you to GlobeSt.com for capturing some of these insights and many more #AI #proptech topics during #OPTECH – this year’s expo was the best one yet! Will Generative AI really bring San Francisco and the Bay Area commercial real estate market back from dead? Are we being overly optimistic? One thing we have all learned over the past 50+ years is never bet against San Francisco and the Bay Area tech culture. The amount of investment in the Bay Area and particularly San Francisco proper is staggering, with over $14B in VC funding year to date representing 82% of VC deal volume globally! In San Francisco alone, 78 AI firms have received VC funding year to date - if just 10% of those 78 firms explode - watch out! #commercialrealestate #bayarearealestate

"I am using AI to automatically drop hats outside my window onto New Yorkers" James Steinberg, a Midwesterner living in New York City has devised an innovative and whimsical way to utilize AI by dropping hats onto pedestrians from his apartment window. Using a combination of a Raspberry Pi, a stepper motor, and an AI model from Roboflow, he created a system that detects when someone stands outside his window and drops a hat onto their head. The system, termed DropofaHat.zone, aims to blend the novelty of AI with the practicality of sun protection in a bustling city. With dreams of expanding this concept to a city-wide phenomenon where various items could be dropped from windows, the inventor provides a step-by-step guide to replicate his setup, from modifying window locks to setting up the AI and dropping mechanism. Software is now a verb. So too is the phrase “digital twin,” especially in relation to deep tech and enterprise software. With the AI revolution in full-swing, everything is being softwared. I’ve gotten together with a wonderfully talented group of people to start a company, called fab.ai, right smack in the middle of this revolution. We are building the world’s first foundation model for advanced manufacturing, trained to to be a trustworthy orchestrator of ideation and physics -- a system to reconcile probabilism and determinism. Fab.ai is special and ambitious, and I want to give a shout out to the founding team and advisors: Gregory Dorman, Sarah Boisvert, Arnoldo Müller-Molina, George Zoghaib Rohit Krishnan, Kirk Bradley, Michael Rocha, Charlie Sum and last but not least, the people at Roadrunner Venture Studios and America's Frontier Fund, specifically, Adam Hammer, Mike Chieco, Christopher Haugh, Steve Weinstein, Brian Wilcove, and Gilman Louie, who was the catalyst to compel my research. Stayed tuned for more in '24.
