Pizza Hut U.S. President David Graves has resigned, leaving the company after just 4 years of service to the company. Graves was praised for his leadership in helping to modernize the brand, spearheading initiatives like extending store hours, introducing the Melts food category, holiday promotions, and forging partnerships with third-party delivery services. Yet, despite all of these efforts, Pizza Hut's sales growth in 2023 trailed behind all other brands within the Yum umbrella, with same-store sales falling 4% in Q4 and growing only 1% over the year. Against the backdrop of Taco Bell and KFC experiencing stronger sales growth in the U.S., and Domino's same store-sales outnumbering that of Pizza Hut by 1.6%, it was too much to allow to continue. The resignation suggests a loss in faith in Graves ability to turn it around, and more so should send a message to investors across the industry that brands who previously thought themselves immune to inflation…need to think again.. https://lnkd.in/eJceRAjp #restaurantnews #tagex #liquidations #furnitureauctions #furnitureliquidations #equipmentliquidations #equipmentauctions #foodindustrynews #foodserviceindustry #kitchenquipment #restaurantequipment #commercialkitchenequipment #restaurantauctions #restaurantclosures #restuaranttrends #restaurantnews #cfo #coo #foodindustry #foodindustryequipment #liquidaterestaurant #openrestaurant #expandrestaurant #foodoperations #restaurantclosure #restaurantremodel #restaurantliquidation

When was the moment you realized you found the thing that would make your business idea successful? Someone asked me this question recently and it got me thinking about the inception of TAGeX Brands. I had a passion for the food business—it’s always evolving, creating an exciting environment and offering countless opportunities for us to make a real difference. For smaller operators or ones looking for equipment, we can help by offering the largest aftermarket for new and used equipment, small wares, and supplies. It's been fulfilling to support businesses of different sizes and industries throughout the last 35 years! Feel free to reach out to learn more about how we can assist you in the never-boring world of food business. #foodservice #sustainability #liquidation

You can buy an assortment of things at Costco — from vacation packages to bulk of your favorite snacks — but did you know they also sell gold bars, too? Last year Costco Wholesale began selling 1 ounce gold bars. Since then, these sales have turned into a huge money maker for the company, with a Wells Fargo analyst estimating its revenue from $100 to $200 million a month. But in terms of bottom line profit, Costco sees a low premium on the gold bars, and additionally it further offers 2% cash back for executive members and another 2% for those who use their Citigroup credit cards. The sales are adding about 3% to general merchandise sales but not contributing much to profit. If you're someone who has purchased a gold bar from the big box retailer, or just find this interesting, I'd love to hear your opinion. Let's discuss in the comments. https://lnkd.in/d8FSdt5c

Thank you April Goess, MPS for sitting down with me (and Pam Sherman) for a #ShermsTake5 interview! April is the Managing Director of the The Culinary Institute of America's San Antonio campus, where she was gracious enough to show us around. During the interview, she revealed to us that because her passion for cooking started when she was only three, her grandparents actually bought her a copy of "The Professional Chef," complete with CIA admissions materials, and gave it to her while she was still in elementary school. Her life really has come full circle after attending, and now working at, the Institute. Watch our interview to learn more about April and to get an inside look inside the CIA.

Seemingly every industry is trying to reap the benefits of the power of AI — grocery and retail included. Walmart has made a lot of news this year with several announcements about AI, part of its new "adaptive retail" strategy, which blends in-store and e-commerce into a unified retail experience. Some of its customer-facing tools include: GenAI-powered search that allows customers to search by specific use cases, e.g., a football watch party. Expanded grocery InHome replenishment that promises refrigerators will be stocked by Walmart associates with the right items at the right time. Exit program at Sam's Club that allows members to skip receipt verification. Behind-the-scenes tech includes: AI-powered inventory scan towers added to Sam's Club robotic scrubbers, which negates the need for time-consuming and potentially inaccurate manual processes. This powerhouse retailer is seemingly paving the way for AI integration in grocery and retail stores. I'm curious to see what company will be next to follow suit.
