This was such a special moment ❤️ edited filmmaker, actress, producer, and founder of Club Curran Tommy Dorfman’s first story for #mixedfeelings. This essay attempts to answer: does the beginning of a relationship have to have the proverbial ~ spark ~? And does so beautifully. “You’re going to have to learn from your own experiences what the beginning of a relationship feels like. There’s a lot of ‘give them a chance’ talk out there, but as Dr. Mort says, listen to your gut instincts, too. “If you decide to give someone a chance, it doesn’t mean keep giving them that chance forever.”

We launched a new column at mixed feelings this year called New Rules, an advice column written by New York teens ages 16-18. This year we will welcome a new cohort of writers and I am so thrilled to get to workshop and edit their work. This most recent story is by and large my favorite thus far, not just because I’ve personally gone through some painful friendship losses over the past few years but because of the depth and vulnerability Ianna, Clementine, and Devin were able to access in their pieces. We threw a party in new york <3 Last week, after nearly three months of planning, we threw an official hard launch for mixed feelings (after almost two years of soft launching by way of decks, business proposals, shifting editorial calendars, and LOTS of social video chit chat). The launch event was coupled with an art exhibition featuring incredible hand-drawn art by our art director Logan Tsugita, custom memes (poetry for the modern age imo), abridged performances of our essays sponsored by Substack, and so much more. I'm so proud of us 😭 19-year-old Mi-Anne, who thought she'd work in beauty forever, would never have imagined that she’d shift gears and breathe life into a platform that covers existential questions big and small, yes, but also doll collecting, it girl takedowns, TEETH, and that uWu finger pointing thing. 👉👈 Our community is so weird, specific, and special. THANK YOU!
