Was awesome to participate in a group show at the Corban Art Estate in Auckland last month. Some of you have asked when my next Auckland solo show will be; I'm working on it! 2024, here we come. Putting yourself out there as a visual artist is pretty tough - rejection is frequent and finding your audience can take time. Somehow, as a creative, the rejection does feel a bit more personal - other people get to decide whether or not your work is 'award winning' or even exhibition worthy. But I'm old enough to know that rejection is just a part of life. Sure, it can be disappointing to get told no; but it just makes the times you get told yes even more sweet. If you have something you'd love to present to the world, maybe a secret passion or hobby; maybe a new business idea - do it!! Don't let excuses stop you - "I'm too old" or "I'm too young"; "I don't have the experience" or "I'm over-qualified"; "I don't know the right people" or "I'm embarrassed to tell my network". The list goes on... Sure, some people will think you're nuts. Others won't like it. But there will be people who do enjoy what you do. Go for it! The only things you'll regret at the end of your life are the things you never had the bravery to try.

Love the freedom of color and patterns in these designs! More about the artist, Pacita Abad, in the post.
Quilted, beaded, mirrored, painted. Wherever she traveled, Philippine-American artist, PACITA ABAD, created colors and shapes that were materially different. “I have always believed that an artist has a special obligation to remind society of its social responsibility,” she said. I think one responsibility is to spread a little joy. She succeeded. © Pacita Abad Art Estate (1946–2004) More about her: https://www. https://www.instagram.com/ /?hl=https://lnkd.in/e5Q7yTRQ Her instagram: https://lnkd.in/eFrN3ru6

Artist, painter, thinker, tinkerer, entrepreneur, business owner, researcher, gardener, art collector, multi-interest hobbyist, history buff, culture enthusiast, and adventure-seeker.
You are an artist? We wonder about you, you know. I read a number of articles which say that an artist is an intellectual. You could post your paintings, art work, prints and photos. But have you truly lived the artist's mind, the ups and downs, the turmoil, the creative insights, the creative work that makes people wonder about you, about where your mind is, what were you thinking? Who are you? Things only an artist would understand, going through life, and the journey through your mind as an artist and through life. What is that thing? That thing you created, something other people have never seen before. A true artist never quite fits in a straight description box, something only an artist could understand, and post. We can tell you are an intellectual. Me? 🤣. You actually have to post things about being an artist, not just post paintings, photos, prints, and say nothing else, to show that you actually have the mind of an artist, and have gone through and go through everything that an artist actually goes through and lives through.
