Summertime outdoors exploring the Portland Japanese Garden, a 12-acre urban oasis set within Portland’s lush Washington Park 🌿 This new Cultural Village serves as a connector of the stunning Oregon landscape, Japanese arts, and a subtle architectural form. Hacker has served the High Desert Museum in Bend, Oregon since 1986, completing numerous projects over the years including master plans and updates, new buildings, renovations and exhibit remodels, aligning like-minded missions and values of connecting visitors to landscape and the animals who inhabit it in a responsible and inclusive way. Students collaborated on a project in the commercial zone on NE 42nd Ave and NE Killingsworth to create places to live, learn, gather, grow food, recreate, and heal to support the current residents in the Cully neighborhood." Hacker Associate, Marissa Sant, AIA, and Principal, Laura Klinger, AIA, have collaborated closely with the City of San Diego Public Library and San Diego County Libraries to coordinate a day of public library tours for the 2024 American Library Association Annual Conference & Exhibit. Supported by the ALA Core - Architecture for Public Libraries Committee, Marissa, will lead a tour scheduled for Friday, June 28th. The tour will feature presentations by local architects and librarians showcasing three libraries: San Diego Central Library, Imperial Beach Library, and San Ysidro Library. June is the Great Outdoors Month! Over the weekend some Hacker members participated in the Cascades Lakes Relay in Central Oregon. The team's total time was 32 hours + 48 minutes for 220 miles with an average pace of 9:06min/mile. The team placed 27/110 overall and 5th in the Corporate Division. Bringing Joy to Brutalism: Hacker Architects and #HowardSWright Balfour Beatty US recently led the kick-off for the Salem Civic Center Renovation. Built in 1972, reviving and reimagining brutalist buildings of this era has become a specialty of our architecture firm. We are continually enhancing our skills in approaching large-scale, complex renovations that retain the positive aspects of this period of architecture while erasing some of the more oppressive and outdated features present in so many of them. Given our firm’s foundational values on sustainability, revitalizing structures is the most important decision we can make to preserve the embodied carbon – the challenge lies in creating light-filled, modern, and wholly inclusive spaces.
