While I can’t speak to the legitimacy of the accusations herein, this is still a worrying situation for advertisers everywhere. Publications whose reputations are staked on their image of legitimate business are not what many may expect to be perpetrators of MFA Ad fraud. That being said, we can better understand ad fraud by looking at the incentive changes on the supply side of these AdTech deals. Ad fraud particularly harms multicultural publishers, as their reach and impact receive decreased impact when improperly assigned to Ad spaces. #AdFraud #AdTech #ProgramaticSupplyChain

What do you think, is it worth the hype? A colleague shared this article with me today, and it is too good not to share more broadly. IMHO, most public sector orgs are far from ready for GenAI: 1.) because the tools are not mature enough, and 2.) because most orgs have some housekeeping to first (e.g. data, policy, processes). As my colleague pointed out, we haven't even really tapped into the full potential of more mature types of AI yet and some are ready to leap ahead to the unknown of GenAI. What does the political landscape look like based on brand preference? What brands are truly non-partisan? In a polarized US political climate, many brands are focused on being as non-partisan as possible - but the latest Harris Poll 100 data show an interesting picture of what brands resonate more or less with Democrats and Republicans. More brands in their 100 skew towards liberal preference, though what most strikes me is how hard it is to truly exclude a party. The appeal of brands that have taken a potentially divisive stance (Chick-fil-a, Nike, etc.) may sit further on one side, but still hold significant preference across parties. When compared with how far out the Trump Organization polls away from Democrats, its interesting to see how the 'Chick-fil-a sandwich effect' allows consumers to separate product from brand. https://lnkd.in/eSextXbt #brandstrategy #brands #politics #uselection

Sixty years ago Marshall McLuhan made the bold suggestion that the Medium is the Message. I wonder what he'd say about today's media-fragmented society? To simplify McLuhan's theory: He argued the way we communicate a message (the channel) has a direct impact on how that message is received. In The Wall Street Journal this morning Suzanne Vranica writes about how brands are moving away from television advertising and redirecting those dollars to mediums that are more relevant to targeted audiences like TikTok. It's clear that Prime Time television in the U.S. is no longer "must see TV" but when advertisers leave it then decline is inevitable. The same thing happened to another medium - newspapers. In a mass media world, should the medium be dictated by what entertains the masses most? I worry that if we continue to go down that road the result will be little more than dumb show and noise. It all makes me think about this Edward Albee quote from "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf": "Dashed hopes and good intentions. Good, better, best, bested” In this instance, prime time TV was once good, then cable came along and was better, eventually we had streaming and social media and some thought that was best. In the end maybe all it has amounted too is the message (and maybe truth) getting bested. Key Lessons Learned from Edelman’s 14-Year Citizenship Journey               When PRWeek named Edelman recently as the agency dynasty of the last 25 years, it praised our “commitment to creating movements, not moments” and cited our global citizenship movement launched in 2010. That acknowledgment is noteworthy. Not just because I have led our CSR Program since its inception. Or because my dad, Daniel Edelman, was a visionary about citizenship when establishing our agency 72 years ago. Rather, the recognition reveals today’s reality. Every company must develop and embrace an integrated CSR strategy, not just ad hoc programs to help protect our planet and make societal progress. For one thing, high expectations from stakeholder groups underscore the value of sustainability efforts. Our respected Edelman Trust Barometer finds that 70% of more than 32,000 global respondents want to work for a company that addresses societal issues. For another, a CSR strategy already is all but mandatory for big and small businesses. The European Union’s CSRD begins phasing in ESG reporting requirements this year for U.S. and global entities. A citizenship strategy becomes transformational on several fronts. It becomes an integral part of a company. Our journey provides a roadmap for developing a comprehensive CSR strategy. Four key lessons learned:    It’s an evolutionary, not a revolutionary, path. When we began, I thought we just needed to launch a few programs to generate early successes. But the programs morphed into much more. For instance, we initially reported four sources of GHG emissions – paper, business travel, electricity, and water. Now, we have added purchased goods and services, employee commuting, and waste, among others as part of our Science-Based Targets initiative. Embed CSR and sustainability into the corporate culture. Achieve this by moving away from siloed citizenship-related programs, consolidating them over time, and integrating them strategically into your culture. We've experienced 10 transformations that we highlighted in our fiscal 2023 citizenship report. Employ data and measurements. They’re critical to drive action and inform strategy. We established a proprietary Citizenship Score to manage and report our activities across global offices. Set goals and report your progress against them. Incorporate a mix of short-term objectives and long-term goals. For example, we set a goal of eliminating single-use non-PET plastics by the end of this fiscal year on June 30. At year-end 2023, 94% of our offices had stopped buying plastic bottles. A long-term goal seeks to achieve at least 15% of our addressable spending with diverse suppliers in the U.S. by the end of fiscal 2025. Developing and embedding CSR and sustainability into Edelman’s culture has been transformational for us as it will be for any other company. I have given you a glimpse of our ongoing CSR journey. I love a hot take on what many consider a broken pitch process, and even better that this one includes tangible tips. My reactions: 1️⃣ “Make pitches shorter.” No question that prolonged searches have gotten out of hand. But IMO, the suggested 2-3 weeks isn’t enough time to get to know each other and for clients to avoid making a snap decision. Anyone can be on their best behavior for 2 weeks. 2️⃣ “Act like you’re already working together.” This one fix alone - providing more access to the clients and opportunities to build chemistry - will address most of the common problems with reviews. That said, agencies need to avoid the temptation to turn each touch point into a pitch. 3️⃣ “Treat each other like partners, not prospects.” Nobody likes agency reviews. Except search consultants like myself—what can I say, we’re a unique breed. But the process is a whole lot better if both sides approach it with the same qualities they expect from their client-agency partnerships: Transparency. Empathy. Respect. TLDR: My favorite part of this piece is that it acknowledges that agencies have a role in fixing what’s broken. As I posted just last week: “While I agree that many agency searches leave lots of room for improvement, at least part of the onus lies with the agencies.”
