Pflugerville...yep that's a real place! Skills I used as an Instructional Coach in Pflugerville ISD 👩‍💻 Software implementation: A new software system was purchased, and Instructional Coaches were tasked with rolling it out with 100% utilization by December. I orchestrated 4 professional development sessions for 20 educators for this new data software system. Additionally, I provided one-on-one troubleshooting and technical assistance to individuals and teams, while mastering the system to analyze our building’s assessment data. 🤹‍♀️Instructional Coaching: Texas Education Agency has a LOT of requirements for their teachers. This role was utilized to impart new state mandates, instructional standard changes, and building initiatives. I provided professional learning on new compliance tools, assessment, and curriculum guidance to small teams and all building professionals (50 personnel). 🔬 ✍ Special Events: I led several big events including the annual TELPAS Writing Assessment with 45 certified staff, ensuring 300 scores were administered and entered accurately and consistently. I also piloted a “writing camp” and “science camp” to boost student retention before annual testing. This consisted of analyzing building assessment data to determine skill gaps and creating instructional content to address those gaps. I mapped out instructional activities, labs, and lessons over a week-long camp, and created the learning groups. I provided training for teachers, secured materials, and orchestrated the camp. 👩‍💼 Personal Note: I met one of my most influential mentors in this job. She modeled excellent conflict resolution and showed me how to conduct difficult conversations. The lessons I learned from her have stuck with me for years. You can have difficult conversations by remaining empathetic, keeping the person’s dignity, keeping your message clear and direct, and maintaining an even tone and volume. Workforce ecosystems. I have spent the last 10 days in San Antonio. Half of this time I spent with my colleagues discussing best practices and needs to assist our partners and students. The reoccurring phrase within our internal meeting was creating an ecosystem for learners and workforce. This week, I attended the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP). Who would have guessed the word I kept hearing while visiting with each of you was creating a workforce ecosystem! This is really the theme of not only what ed2go brings to the table but also how academic partners, workforce boards, employers, and the like are starting to realize these connections are vital to sustaining professional development and an educated workforce. I appreciate all the conversations I had over these last 10 days. I have a positive outlook that together we can build a workforce ecosystem to evolve our labor market. Last week, Baker University's Instructional Design and Performance Technology graduate students and faculty had the honor 🌟 of hosting guest speaker Carolina Cuesta-Hincapié. Carolina shared her research on creativity - how it's taught, what it is (and isn't), and how creativity is effectively applied. From her talk, I've learned 💡 that creativity requires intentionality, and whether something is "creative" is determined by those receiving the benefits of your work/ideas/creations. So the next time I am shocked 😲 to hear that my work is "too creative" (it's happened twice so far ), I need to brainstorm 🤔 why my approach isn't useful to others.
