Another task-tip for instructional designers, this time for docs and PDFs: • Kill the cover page. • Eliminate the edition notice. • 86 all page numbers. • Defenestrate the photos. • Ice the intro. They serve no purpose in a digital environment and obstruct access to information. Your readers will thank you. #instructionaldesign #elearning

Even when working with my instructional design process, I love sketching my ideas before designing the course. It helps me not to get stuck on one idea. Here, I can erase, add, and create multiple templates before taking them to vector format. This process occurs after the text storyboard is developed and signed off by the client. By doing this, it allows the client to focus on the subject matter and not get distracted by the design. Need help with your next project or have a question? 🎨 Choosing the right font style for your eLearning courses is more important than you might think! Let's talk typography — it's not just an aesthetic choice, but a strategic decision that can significantly impact the effectiveness of your course materials. Different fonts evoke different feelings and can set the tone for your content. For instance, playful fonts might be perfect for children's educational modules, but when you're dealing with serious subjects, like medical training, you’ll want something more subdued and professional. Here are a few quick tips on picking the right font: ✅ Do choose fonts that complement each other ✅ Do make readability a priority ✅ Do maintain style consistency 🚫 Don't overload your design with multiple competing fonts 🚫 Don't sacrifice legibility for style (if it's hard to read, it's hard to learn) 🚫 Don't ignore context Remember, the right typography conveys your message and enhances the learning experience, making your content both engaging and effective. ---------------------------------------- I’m Scott Winstead, and I help instructional designers build successful careers by equipping them with the tools and insights they need to land big jobs and excel in the field. Has any other ID been mistaken for a graphic designer? Although it's flattering and we may overlap, we have different focus areas and skillsets. Saw this quote online and had to share: Great graphic design isn’t the same as great instructional design. It isn’t about a pretty deck, colorful workbook, or flashy brand logos. Graphics should enhance the learners' experience, but it’s more important that they walk away remembering and using your content. No one ever said, “My life changed because the workbook was beautiful.” #instructionaldesign #edtech #elearning #isd

Graphic design isn't just about the images you use, but also how text is visually presented. This is why the layout is integral to how easy (or hard) it can be for learners to absorb information in an eLearning course. Some of the best practices for an engaging layout include: 💡 Make use of white or negative space 💡 Isolate a point to underscore its importance 💡 Use bulleted lists to highlight key principles 💡 Group and arrange similar elements together 💡 Position crucial info at the start and the end To learn more about the graphic design elements that can help to improve your learners' engagement and retention of information, click the link below👇 https://lnkd.in/eCUrwV8d #eLearning #Design #Graphics #elearningdesign
