Parable: "a succinct story that illustrates one or more instructive lessons or principles using human characters..." The meaning and import of the red helicopter parable is spreading. Business, education, family, and increasingly in civics. Not just in the US, but globally. Have you read it yet? Or listened to the accompanying music on the website? 🚁 measures what truly creates value - in the business of life AND the life of business - and in doing so, it unites rather than divides. the red helicopter

If our systems don’t support the outcomes we want, why don’t we change them? Accounting is one of those systems, says Ashoka E2 Member James C. Rhee. Often, accounting standards drive undesirable business outcomes and behavior, which are then justified by “that’s how the system works.” But, as James argues, unlike physics, “accounting is made up” and therefore bendable – at least for internal purposes. So why don’t we? For more insights on how we can build better systems, businesses, and lives, check out James’ recent bestseller: www.redhelicopter.com or watch his full interview with Ashoka’s Njideka U. We were so happy to send so many of our AAPI-LEAD youth leadership conference attendees home with a copy of “red helicopter―a parable for our times: lead change with kindness (plus a little math)” last week! Penned by acclaimed impact investor, goodwill strategist, professor, CEO, and CACF Board member James C. Rhee, “the red helicopter” details the importance of centering kindness while making major decisions. We hope our attendees continue to take the lessons from the red helicopter with them in their future endeavors.

A relaxing week at the beach. Still here (stretch)… Feels like the world could use this image and concept right now. Nothing good and sustainable comes from anger. Any true leader or investor knows this - whether it’s the life of business or the business of life. Don’t succumb to the absurdity and noise around you. Make good decisions. the red helicopter 🚁

We're still soaring from our recent event with James C. Rhee, the visionary CEO, investor, educator, and national bestselling author of "red helicopter – a parable for our times." 🚁 In collaboration with the Commonwealth Club World Affairs, and moderated by Yul Kwon, CKA Board Member and VP of Product Management at Google, James shared transformative insights from his leadership journey. 🇰🇷🇺🇸 Subscribe to the CKA Newsletter and be the first to receive updates on events, community initiatives, and news like this: https://hubs.li/Q02DKxGN0 James Rhee's story is a testament to the creativity, resolve, and mutualism of the Korean and Korean American experience that connects with all of humanity. His upcoming multi-media adaptations, as well as the Korean translation forthcoming later this year, will further underscore the importance of the leadership lessons bestowed upon him by the women in his life, particularly his mother. James left us with profound lessons and an invitation: 1️⃣ “Live your life like a helicopter, not an airplane. Learn how to maneuver, land and get back up again, hover, run in circles, and live agilely.” 2️⃣ “Kindness is not niceness — it’s a mutualistic exchange where you’re investing in someone else’s agency.” 3️⃣ “Leaders are people who lead from behind — they create an environment where people are allowed to sing and be themselves, while also contributing to a broader symphony of voices." 4️⃣ “Korean people are particularly well situated to lead in this moment of socioeconomic inflection.” 📩 Contact CKA to learn more about how to get involved in future media projects relating to the book, in Korea or in the US. A heartfelt thank you to James Rhee for sharing his wisdom, to Yul Kwon for moderating such an impactful discussion, to Commonwealth Club World Affairs, and to the over 125 attendees who joined us 💖 💡 CKA's mission is to advance the national voice and influence of the Korean American community. CACF’s Grants and Contracts Team was delighted to gather with our FY24 Communities of Color Nonprofit Stabilization Fund (CCNSF) awardees for a Reflection Gathering and Celebration on Wednesday afternoon. A New York City Council-funded initiative co-led by CACF, CCSNF provides capacity-building support to nonprofits serving Black, Latino, and Asian communities across the five boroughs. Wednesday’s gathering was an opportunity for our current awardees to chat about the impact CCSNF has had on their organizations, share some key insights gained as they wrap up their projects, and build stronger relationships with one another. We were also able to give each of our awardees a copy of CACF Board member James C. Rhee’s debut book "the red helicopter―a parable for our times: lead change with kindness (plus a little math)," a work about centering connections and kindness when making major decisions. Thank you to all of our wonderful awardees for joining us!
