April Petrosino authored an article for the Daily Business Review that shares her experience with #impostersyndrome as an early career associate in the legal profession. April also highlights the role of mentorship in overcoming imposter syndrome as well as how her mentors have impacted her professional growth, emphasizing a mentor's role in helping #lawfirmassociates overcome self-doubt and build confidence. "Every attorney starts at the beginning, at page one, and that is precisely why a mentor who can empathize and assist with their own experience is vital for many new attorneys who get caught in this rut," she writes. "Three years in, my confidence in my own abilities continues to grow. I've accepted that it's normal not to have a grasp on certain things at this early stage of my career. And while I may not have an instruction manual, I know where to turn when I need help to point me in the right direction, like a compass or a map with a human touch." Join us in congratulating David Frantze for being one of 25 attorneys recognized by Missouri Lawyers Media as a 2024 ICON Award winner! This award honors members of Missouri's legal community aged 60 and older who have demonstrated exemplary careers and a longstanding commitment to the profession. Dave's recognition is a testament to why he is often described by clients as possessing "an exceptional mind when it comes to crafting complex public-private partnerships." During his 40-year career at Stinson, Dave has significantly influenced Kansas City's landscape, guiding complex real estate projects for developers, property owners, tenants and end-user companies. His contributions include key roles in major developments like the T-Mobile Center, CPKC Stadium (home to the KC Current), and the revitalization of Union Station, which is still considered to be one of the largest restoration/adaptive reuse projects in the Kansas City metro area. We recently hosted our 5th annual Pro Bono Nonprofit Legal Clinic to support and assist #nonprofits in need of legal assistance. The event was organized by the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law Entrepreneurial Legal Services Clinic and planned in coordination with KANSAS LEGAL SERVICES, INC. and the Mid-America Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel. Our attorneys were paired with in-house counsel from local nonprofits who were then matched with a nonprofit client based on its legal needs and the attorneys' area of practice. Through the clinic, attorneys provided limited-scope legal guidance on a variety of topics, including governance systems, policies and procedures, employee manuals, lease/agreement review and intellectual property. "We are grateful for the annual Pro Bono Nonprofit Legal Clinic provided by Stinson and ACC Mid-America attorneys from local businesses. Their in-depth knowledge has been instrumental in building our capacity as a nonprofit organization, allowing us to focus on what matters most, advancing our mission and driving positive change in the communities we serve," Center for Supportive Communities Founder and Executive Director Kelsey Dachman said after the clinic. The legal clinic aims to deliver high-quality legal representation – on a pro bono basis – so nonprofits can operate efficiently while conserving their resources. John A. Willding II is featured in The Texas Lawbook highlighting his decision to join #StinsonInDallas. John said he joined the firm because of our "world-class" corporate finance practice and great Midwest culture. John also highlights trends he's seeing in deal work, including a significant pickup in middle-market M&A deals across industries like technology, manufacturing and health care, as well as increased fund formation and #realestate #jointventure work. Ann Thomas, Esq. authored a column for Bloomberg Law that assesses the current state of #DEI initiatives and provides insight into a nuanced approach to DEI that balances advocacy with understanding and fosters constructive dialogue across differing views. Ann says when we engage with dissenting voices from a place of curiosity, build authentic relationships across divides and challenge systemic barriers, we are better able to advance a more just and inclusive society. "DEI work requires a multifaceted approach and a long-term perspective," Ann notes. "Regardless of setbacks, DEI cannot fail in the long run because it is intertwined with the evolution of humanity." Our Minneapolis attorneys, staff and summer associates recently volunteered their time and skills in support of Hearts & Hammers – a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting seniors, individuals with disabilities and veterans or their surviving spouse with exterior home improvement assistance. Through various home improvement projects, Hearts & Hammers enables homeowners to live independently and age in place comfortably. This year, the Stinson team painted the exterior of a home, stained the deck and completed light landscaping work to enhance the property's appearance and contribute to the neighborhood's revitalization. Both the Stinson team and the homeowner were grateful for this opportunity to collaborate and give back to the community. #HeartsnHammers #TwinCities #MinneapolisAttorneys #SummerAssociates #CommunityEngagement

Katie Cronin co-authored an article with Blackbird DC President Katharine Manning for Law360 that addresses the challenges attorneys face when working with pro bono clients who have experienced trauma. The article is a result of the partnership between the firm's #probono and #wellbeing teams, which focuses on supporting our attorneys who work with trauma survivors. As part of this initiative, they invited Katharine to present to the firm during Pro Bono Week, where she offered trauma-informed practices and advice for protecting oneself from secondary trauma and guarding against compassion fatigue. Katie and Katharine emphasize the importance of trauma-informed interviewing to create a safe and supportive environment for clients and provide key principles to mitigate the effects of trauma and avoid re-traumatizing survivors. They also address compassion fatigue, a common experience for attorneys working with trauma survivors, and emphasize the importance of self-care and compassion in the legal profession, especially when working with pro bono clients.
