With #climatechange leading to increasing incidents of natural disasters, sea level rise, and cataclysmic weather conditions, this is a project type that a lot of our clients want to talk about. We believe a resilience hub functions best when it serves as a heart and hub for its #community, and is designed to be integral to its culture and place. Then, in times of more extreme need, it unites and strengthens the community physically, mentally, socially, and economically while helping it weather the shocks and stresses unique to its location. Eugene, OR has a beautiful river district! Who knew? Well, we did. And you may have been watching these plans develop, too. SERA Architects urban planning team have been involved in this master planning effort since 2017, and now we have the privilege of being the architect, interior designer, and landscape architect of the first building to be completed here. The city of Eugene has been working for 14 years to revitalize this area, which used to be the Eugene Water and Electric Board HQ. Now it beautifully connects Downtown with the Willamette River—and people are living there! Heartwood is not only welcoming and beautiful, it's both Fitwel Certification System and Earth Advantage Platinum certified—this new riverfront district is off to a great, #sustainable start! The folks cutting the ribbon are Jim Atkins (developer Atkins & Dame), Eugene Mayor Lucy Vinis, and Denny Braud (Executive Director, City of Eugene Planning & Development Administration). And that ribbon is held by the proud residents of the first two apartments in the building! Congratulations, everybody! #designforhumans #housingforall

Congratulations to Ecotope, Inc. for earning 1st Place in the ASHRAE Regional Tech Awards (Commercial, Existing) for the 3-way mixed mode airflow system we get to enjoy in the SERA office at the Galleria. We love having operable windows, but when the air quality's not great outside, we love having filtered or even super-scrubbed air. This office may be the healthiest place to breathe in Portland!
