Centering Students. Advancing Equity.
About us
New Teacher Center (NTC) is a national nonprofit organization. Our vision is that every student from preschool through high school, deserves an excellent and equitable education that empowers them to reach their full potential in classrooms, communities, and beyond. Our mission is to disrupt the predictability of educational inequities for systemically underserved students by accelerating educator effectiveness. Founded by teachers in 1998, NTC builds capacity within district partners to drive student learning, educator effectiveness, and leadership development. We do this by providing PreK-12 educators with evidence-based skills and supports needed to create optimal learning environments that accelerate students’ academic and social-emotional success, focusing specifically focusing on the whole-child.

We cannot only fight oppression that directly impacts us. When asked what allyship means to Lisa Schmitt, co-leader of NTC’s LGBTQ+ Allies Group, she shared: “Being an ally means listening, laughing, loving, collaborating, and supporting my LGBTQ+ friends and the community with intention. It means seeking to interrupt my own unconscious bias. It means seeking to understand; inviting and celebrating the shared experiences and unique perspectives that shape my understanding of people and the world around me. It means viewing my behaviors through the lens of how my actions affect the lives of others. It means recognizing and calling out bias and injustice, and working to change problematic policies, practices, and behaviors so my friends in the community know they can trust me to stand up for them.” #PrideMonth

NTC recognizes our nation's journey toward equality and justice for all. Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans—a historic milestone—and stands as a testament to their resilience and the ongoing fight for freedom. It is a time for reflection, celebration, and action. It's an opportunity to deepen our understanding, foster meaningful connections, and amplify the voices of our Black community members. To honor this important day, NTC will be closed on Wednesday, June 19. We encourage you to celebrate by learning about its history, engaging in meaningful conversations, or participating in community events. Let's come together to honor the spirit of Juneteenth and continue the journey toward a more just and equitable society for all.
