From our founding goal to assist in the coordination of kidney donations, we have grown to become a multi-faceted organization dedicated to saving lives and enhancing the quality of all donated organs and tissues currently available for transplant. Located in Saint Louis, Missouri, Mid-America is one of 56 federally designated organizations of its kind in the United States. Mid-America Transplant's primary service offering is to facilitate and coordinate the organ and tissue donation process. With a mission to save lives through excellence in organ and tissue donation, we have been at the forefront of enhancing the quality of organs and tissue for transplant and a leader in eye bank services. Throughout our history, we have relentlessly pursued our core values of compassion, collaboration, excellence, innovation, integrity, and stewardship to create a positive donation experience for Donor Families, which is at the heart of what matters most to Mid-America Transplant.

As a donation coordinator, Joe speaks with families to discuss the gift of tissue donation. “I make sure families know what’s involved, what the next steps are, and the resources that we offer at Mid-America Transplant. I support them the entire way through.” Thank you to Joe for sharing his story with us. We wish him success at the upcoming Transplant Games! https://lnkd.in/gbQjeCi6

It’s a common misconception that people in the LGBTQ+ community can’t donate organs. However, anyone can become an organ donor, and anyone can benefit from receiving a life-saving organ transplant. The passage of the HIV Organ Policy Equity (HOPE) Act in 2013 paved the way for the transplantation of organs from HIV-positive donors to HIV-positive recipients. As of May 2024, 29 hospitals in the U.S. participate in HOPE Act research. The act has also helped to advance greater understanding and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community, which has been disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS. Everyone has the potential to leave a lasting legacy through organ donation, providing immediate hope for those waiting for a life-saving transplant. #PrideMonth #SayYesGiveLife

Today, we celebrate #Juneteenth. African Americans make up 13% of the U.S. population, but 28% of those waiting for an organ transplant. Dr. Velma Scantlebury, the first African American female transplant surgeon in the U.S., reminds us: "Increasing organ donation in minority communities is not just about numbers—it's about saving lives and giving hope to families." Your decision to sign up as a donor can save lives and bring hope to those on the transplant waiting list and their families. 💙💚 Thank you to The Association for Multicultural Affairs in Transplantation for creating the artwork to educate, honor, and celebrate Juneteenth.

This month we had the privilege of honoring over 70 organ and tissue donor heroes at our Candlelight Memorial in St. Louis. Families adorned lighted trees with leaves that displayed the names of their loved ones, and a photo slideshow highlighted each selfless individual who said yes to giving the gift of life. Thank you to Faith Miracle Temple for hosting us, to our guest speakers for sharing their stories, and to our employees, whose collaboration and compassion make these events possible. #CandlelightMemorial #OurWorkLivesOn #SayYesGiveLife
