A great partnership!
Maine Community College System students now have a direct path to becoming Black Bears. 🐻 The University of Maine and its regional campus, the University of Maine at Machias, have formalized a new agreement with MCCS that enables co-enrollment and for those who earn an associate degree through Maine’s community colleges to seamlessly transfer to UMaine or UMM to complete a high-value bachelor’s degree. As part of the so-called Black Bear Advantage, UMaine and UMM will also offer academic advising and transfer support, a waiver of application fees, priority registration and a $2,000 scholarship. Maine’s public universities and community colleges have a long tradition of working together and the new University of Maine System (UMS) strategic plan prioritizes further improving the transfer process and outcomes as employers increasingly expect four-year and advanced degrees. There are now more than 180 formal articulation agreements that allow MCCS students to transfer into UMS universities and have all their Maine community college credits count, including those between MCCS and UMaine and UMM in high-demand fields like education, engineering technology and social work. Julia Trujillo Luengo: "Ask people who they are and don't put them in boxes that make you feel comfortable." Kerem Durdag: "Hire them."
