Middle School, Middle Level- these are the people who guide the boys who have to jump as high as they can on every doorway. The girls who are figuring out what to carry in their purse. The ones who call eveyone “bruh” and “bro” every day and as generically as possible. The ones who will -probably- work for a single Starburst, or any type of food… The ones who still need recess every day even if the school doesn’t schedule it, because kinetic energy is still all over the place… when they act awake after 9am. The ones who can change the smell of a room in 3.5 seconds. The ones who are too cool and are too silly- within five minutes and back again. The ones who sometimes have the self-control of a gnat, and then have startlingly profound awareness. The ones who are both mean and kind on the same day. The ones whose brains are neuro-organizing all the files in new places and they forget everything and all their stuff. The ones whose energy could power the world, just like Monsters Inc. The ones who take a special kind of teacher to *get* them. They’re not just smaller high schoolers. Hats 🎩 Off to the Middle Level Educators.

We've seen in times past the power of this tool, we've witnessed how effective it is in changing the tides and making a whole situation better. On the other hand, we've also seen how that not everyone has access to this golden opportunity called education either because of culture, ignorance, financial status, family background and so many others. Therefore, on a day like this, even as we celebrate the role of education and how much it has contributed to the peace and development of the world. We also choose to create the awareness that education is for everyone. Education is a human right, a public good and a public responsibility. Education is that long-term investment that contributes to the peace of our nation and the world at large. It's also that tool that liberates people and cause a positive impact. Your part? Educate someone, give out a book, volunteer to teach, encourage a child, sponsor a child, help spread this good news in and around your environment. The world will be a much better place if we all are educated!

Championing the importance of a diverse higher education sector - a new GuildHE manifesto. The higher education sector is made up of a huge range of providers - including conservatoires, smaller universities and specialist institutions - delivering a wide variety of learning environments, course types and qualification routes. The UK higher education sector is stronger for being diverse providing choice for students and education often in remote parts of the UK. However, the financial pressures facing higher education place this diversity at risk. We make a number of recommendations to protect and enhance this diversity to enable both students and higher education institutions to thrive. #universities #highereducation #highered #GE2024 #GeneralElection

Though I’m not yet formally in post, I’m happy to share the GuildHE manifesto containing key recommendations for the next government. Our focus must remain on championing the diversity of our sector. It’s richness is derived from its wide variety of providers; some large, some medium-sized, some small; some more traditional, some very new; some providing on-campus, off-campus, blended learning or all 3; all delivering to towns, cities and regions across the devolved nations, enabling students of all ages to undertake lifelong learning that improves their lives, careers and experiences. There is no one-size fits all, and unless we think creatively, we risk losing the diversity that makes UK HE so attractive to both domestic and international students. Not only that, a less attractive, strong and robust system would weaken the UK’s soft power around the world at a time we need to be showing ourselves as deep and meaningful collaborative partners to tackle global challenges. I look forward to working with my GuildHE team and many of you in (and outwith) the sector to secure the strength and diversity of our sector!
