Maine Community Foundation is currently accepting grant proposals for the Edward H. Daveis Benevolent Fund, which supports early childhood and youth engagement programs in Greater Portland. Proposals are due September 16. The fund recognizes the critical roles parents and early childhood education providers play to ensure a child’s readiness to enter school and the importance of youth leadership programs that help develop aspirations and abilities of youth. In this photo, a child enjoys reading books at The Portland Public Library. The library was awarded $7,500 through the Edward H. Daveis Benevolent Fund for early literacy experiences that inspire imagination, curiosity, awareness, and learning in 2022. Thank you to Brian Bernatchez, managing director and chief investment officer at Golden Pond Wealth Management and Maine Community Foundation board member, for sharing this estate planning guidance for adults in their 40s and 50s. Estate planning is especially important for members of this generation who may be making their own financial plans while assisting family members.
For people in their 40s and 50s, caring for their children as well as their parents, mapping out a financial future can be especially necessary. And challenging. https://ow.ly/HhhY50SEr5G

Earlier today, Maine Community Foundation president and CEO Deborah Ellwood (center) visited Machias with members of Maine's Infrastructure Rebuilding and Resilience Commission. The commission evaluates climate impacts and identifies areas of short- and long-term response to recent storms. During today's site visit, commission members learned more about the work Machias and the local community are doing to address their infrastructure challenges after the storms earlier in the year. Deborah is pictured with Linda Nelson, Stonington Economic and Community Development Director and co-chair of the Infrastructure Rebuilding and Resilience Commission, and Charlie Colgan, Center for the Blue Economy, Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey and Professor Emeritus, University of Southern Maine. The influences of a changing climate impact all Mainers. Thank you to the entire commission for for working toward a better climate future for our state! #maine #mainecf #mainecommunityfoundation #machias #machiasmaine #climate #climatechange #community

Today, Maine Community Foundation is proud to celebrate Juneteenth and honor African American independence. Even though the last victims of American slavery were freed on June 19, 1865, Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) people have continuously faced systemic inequities. 159 years later, MaineCF remains committed to building a better, more equitable Maine. To this aim, the MaineCF BIPOC Fund, established in 2007, supports organizations that serve people of color throughout the state.
