Third Thursday @ Three Powered by Kinect Capital Recognized as a Top Networking Event in Utah by Utah Business Lehi, Utah – July 10, 2024 Third Thursday @ Three, a premier networking and pitch event, has been recognized by Utah Business writer Izzy Howell as one of the top seven networking events in Utah. Howell emphasizes the importance of networking in career success, stating, “Whether you’re a seasoned professional, recently graduated or find yourself new to an area, networking makes or breaks your career. As the adage goes, It’s not what you know — it’s who you know.” https://lnkd.in/gYqQpsr7 Third Thursday @ Three is where innovation meets investment. Inspired by Utah’s exceptional startup success rate, with 1 in 61 venture-backed startups becoming unicorns, the event is dedicated to linking visionary startups with investors. Each month, five startups are given five minutes each to pitch their ideas to Angel and VC investors at the Kiln HQ theater in Lehi. The event is followed by a Q&A session, networking, and refreshments, making it a must-attend for entrepreneurs and investors alike. Launched just over a year ago by Ray Smithson, Third Thursday @ Three has quickly become a force in the entrepreneurial community. Over the course of 17 events, more than 80 founders have had the opportunity to present their businesses to a group of investors, founders, and influencers in the Utah entrepreneurial community. With over 2,000 attendees, the event has catapulted several businesses to receiving funding. Third Thursday @ Three is also Kinect Capital’s official business showcase and pitch event in Utah. James Kemp, Executive Director of Kinect Capital, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Partnering with Ray and his Third Thursday @ Three event is a huge win for us. It is an incredible feeder into our Annual Investors Choice and WeROC (Women Realizing Opportunities for Capital) events. Ray is the head of community relations for Kinect Capital and we couldn’t be happier to work with him on a daily basis.” Ray Smithson, the founder of Third Thursday @ Three, added, “Seeing the growth and impact of Third Thursday @ Three has been incredibly rewarding. Our goal has always been to create a platform where startups can connect with the right investors and resources to take their businesses to the next level. The recognition from Utah Business is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.” The next Third Thursday @ Three event is scheduled for July 18, 2024 and will be focused on Veteran business owners or “Vetrepreneurs”. Sanctioned Troublemaker

A memo to a higher office, open letter to the powers that be. To a god, a king, a head of state, a captain of industry. To the movers and the shakers, can't everybody see? (Second Nature - Rush - 1987) Utah stands as a beacon for entrepreneurs, offering a fertile ground for innovation and growth. The state’s entrepreneurial spirit is legendary, fostering a business climate that ranks among the nation’s finest. Opportunities abound for those ready to seize them. The entrepreneurial community here is a tight-knit tapestry of mentors and peers, ever-ready to lend a hand. It’s not uncommon to find the same dedicated faces at various events, echoing the loyal “Dead Heads” of the Grateful Dead, following their favorite band from show to show with unwavering support. Yet, even in this nurturing ecosystem, challenges persist. The warmth of the community sometimes overshadows the need for forthright feedback. We’ve all heard the adage: “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” But in our quest to be supportive, we must not shy away from the tough love that can spur growth. Honest, constructive criticism is the crucible in which true entrepreneurial mettle is tested and refined. The phenomenon of “ghosting” also casts a shadow on our collaborative efforts. The sudden silence from potential partners or mentors can derail even the most promising of ventures. Clear, consistent communication is the lifeblood of any partnership, and its absence can be a significant setback. To surmount these hurdles, we must cultivate an environment of transparency and constructive dialogue. It’s time to embrace the uncomfortable conversations that lead to progress. Let’s champion the kind of feedback that, while hard to hear, is laced with the intent to uplift and improve. We must also champion accountability and follow-through. Commitments should be honored, not just made; promises kept, not just spoken. This is the foundation of trust upon which successful collaborations are built. Supporting businesses means not just cheering for their successes but also recognizing when a venture may not be viable. Sometimes, the kindest act is to encourage a swift pivot or graceful exit, allowing entrepreneurs to apply their hard-earned lessons to new endeavors. In closing, Utah’s entrepreneurial landscape is ripe with potential, but it requires us to face its challenges head-on. Let’s pledge to foster a culture of honest feedback, accountability, and unwavering support. Together, we can ensure that Utah remains a stronghold of entrepreneurial success. Let me end by stating that I am as guilty of this behavior as anyone in the community. I commit to do better and be better. I am a new member of this community and I want to thank you for your patience with me.
