RevRoad Capital reposted this
Thank you ACG Utah for having me speak at this month’s breakfast meeting! It was an honor to share the origins of RevRoad Capital as a sister company to RevRoad. As I’ve had a chance to reflect on our early success as a team and as a fund, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s because we have been so intentionally focused on defining who our customers are, and focused on these two questions— 1. How do we bring the most value to our customers? 2. What can we control? And you know what was fun, sharing the fact that 30% of our LPs are women and the majority of capital inside of our fund has come from successful founders who want to invest in the next generation of founders. When I was introduced, Travis Yates made sure to point out that his wife Brittany London and I began our careers together at Goldman Sachs SLC in 2006 — what a small world! I took a moment before launching into my prepared remarks to share with the audience of executives that the analysts and associates in their offices can and will be community leaders someday. If you had asked 2006 intern Rachelle that less than 20 years I’d be giving this address this morning, I wouldn’t have believed it. The good news is that I’ve always had professional mentors who could see my potential, and for them I am grateful. But back to the main message of the day — focus on defining your customer(s) and then serve them well. Never stop focusing on your customer! Or, as I got it cemented in my head during my 12 years at Goldman Sachs, “Our clients’ interest always comes first. Our experience shows that if we serve our clients well, our success will follow.” At RevRoad Capital, we are customer obsessed (to draw on Amazon Leadership Principle #1).
