In Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi is a worldview centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. We approach real estate with a similar mindset, choosing to accept and even accentuate the distinctive character of historic buildings, rather than creating simple, four-white-wall-buildouts. There are often challenges with working with historic or unconventional properties, but we find that tenants, residents, and visitors respond well to the imperfect elements that make a building distinctive. #commercialrealestate #CRE #adaptivereuse #development #design

As our cities evolve, information exchange and collaboration across borders can be catalysts for growth and innovation.   This belief was put into practice this week as we welcomed a delegation of London-based real estate leaders and city officials organized by Opportunity London, an initiative promoting capital investment into London’s low carbon real estate, energy, and infrastructure. As part of their trip to the U.S., we toured some of our signature projects in New York and Boston, including Chelsea Market, Pier 57, Industry City, and the Innovation and Design Building, as well as other projects like the Brooklyn Army Terminal and Governor’s Island.    Opportunities like these emphasize the value of global dialogue around urban development, as major cities like London and New York look for placemaking solutions for sustainable growth.   #commercialrealestate #CRE #GlobalCities #AdaptiveReuse

At their best, our properties are gathering places where people and businesses come together for the benefit of the community. EverybodyFights, which combines the grit of a traditional boxing gym with the style of a luxury fitness studio, has raised over $70,000 for various charitable causes since opening at Boston's Innovation and Design Building (IDB) earlier this year. By partnering with their members to offer workout classes and events to raise money for initiatives important to their community, they offer a unique, holistic approach to fitness not typically seen at comparable health clubs. Last month, NBC Boston Stations visited Everybody Fights to see their flagship facilities at the IDB and learn more about their charitable work. In an increasingly digital world, we believe immersive experiences can play an important role in creating lasting resonance with visitors, compelling people to be present in the moment and connect more with their surroundings. At Jamestown, these experiences are often part of broader placemaking programs aimed at facilitating community and creative interactions. Jamestown President @Michael Phillips spoke about our approach to immersive experiences at the WXO - World Experience Organization Summit in Brooklyn earlier this month. The conversation, moderated by Heather Gallagher M.Sc. presented as a dating game between real estate owners and experience creators, also included Dan Pelson of AREA15, Lou Pizante of The Experientialists, and Lanné Bennett #commercialrealestate #CRE #immersiveentertainment #WXO

We approach food as the medium of culture, community, and place. We look at the property as a whole and identify gaps in our offerings, searching for operators we believe could fill those gaps- with an emphasis on diversity, authenticity, and chef-driven concepts.  It’s a highly active curation process, but the most important criterion is a quality product. At Raleigh Iron Works, we've brought Scott Crawford's newest restaurant, Brodeto, to the property, offering Croatian fare and dishes from Italy’s coast. Crawford drew inspiration from the Adriatic coasts of Italy and Croatia, which includes seafood stews, squid ink pasta, and standout dishes like ricotta-stuffed pasta. #commercialrealestate #CRE #Raleigh #food

Last week, Jamestown's General Counsel Amber Murray (pictured second from left) was recognized by OnBoard Inc. in their annual OnBoard Excellence Awards. Designed to recognize women in senior executive positions who are in the pipeline for board service, the award is presented each year to three female, Georgia-based leaders to exemplify OnBoard’s mission: increasing the number of women in executive leadership and on corporate boards. This year, Amber was joined by Dara Redler from H&R Block and Elizabeth B (Beth) Chandler from Rollins, Inc., other female General Counsels in Atlanta. #OnBoard #Atlanta #Leadership

Jamestown’s Groot Handelsgebouw in Rotterdam has been nominated for a People's Choice BREEAM Award, and you can cast your vote today at this link: https://lnkd.in/dzed3WMj BREEAM is a highly esteemed global recognition in the environmental, social, and governance field. ESG initiatives are often a challenge in historic buildings, but we believe part of our historic stewardship of monument buildings includes making them sustainable for future generations. Last year, we received an 'Excellent 4-star' rating - making the property the first Dutch national monument to achieve that recognition.    #BREEAM #JamestownEurope #GrootHandelsgebouw #AdaptiveReuse

Our redevelopment of One Times Square, the site of the New Year's Eve Ball Drop, will transform the building into a year-round entertainment destination and modern-day visitor center for New York. While one of the most visible and recognized buildings in the world, One Times Square has sat vacant for most of its history due its small floor plates and the density of Times Square. The B1M, a popular YouTube channel focused on construction, recently spoke with Jamestown President Michael Phillips about the history of the building, the challenges of construction in the busiest part of New York City, and the future of the iconic property. Take a look here: https://lnkd.in/e6gE9nqm #commercialrealestate #CRE #development #TimesSquare #construction #NYC

The West Side Community Fund (WSCF), a consortium of businesses that come together to support neighborhood initiatives in the west side of Manhattan, recently announced the allocation of $100,000 to 19 grant recipients as part of its bi-annual grant program. This grant cycle marks over $1 million in grants to uplift and support communities in Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen, and Hudson Yards since the Fund's establishment in 2018. The Spring 2024 grant cycle demonstrates a significant expansion of the Fund's impact, with almost half (eight out of 19) of the recipients being new organizations. This underscores the Fund's commitment to addressing a wide range of community needs, from food insecurity and education to health and wellness, economic empowerment, community improvement, and the arts. #commercialrealestate #CRE #microgrants #WestsideManhattan #Chelsea #HudsonYards #HellsKitchen
