🌟GEAPP, alongside IDB Lab, Inter-American Development Bank and DGRV - Team América Latina have launched LAC E-Coop. The project aims to provide access to clean energy for 42 rural producer organizations, directly benefiting approximately 2,100 low-income farmers and indirectly benefiting 8,000 individuals, including family members and other organizations. The short story: we're tailoring our support to help rural producers and suppliers build sustainable change from the community level.💛 Because when we talk about accelerating the just #energytransition, we know that's only part of the story. This project is building on hardworking rural producers to work smarter and greener to help grow businesses, strengthen communities and change lives. In the words of Isabel Beltrán, our very own Managing Director for all things Latin America and the Caribbean: 🗣 "GEAPP is excited to be working with Barbados to ensure sufficient Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to meet their energy transition goals. This represents a great opportunity to showcase how renewable energy paired with BESS, and strong collaboration between partners, can improve reliability, avert carbon emissions and create jobs." #LetsChangeEnergy
🇧🇧 #Barbados, 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝐂𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞! We couldn't be prouder of the incredible progress made during this 3-day workshop in Barbados. A huge kudos to this #dreamteam! ⚡After three intense and inspiring days, our RELP team is brimming with innovative ideas and valuable insights to advance the BESS competitive procurement programme for the country. ⚡There were discussions on the procurement features that best fit Barbados and on the drafting of term sheets towards the launching of an Expression of Interest process. ⚡ From RELP's team: Mauro G. Soares, Co-founder and COO; Ramiro Gómez Barinaga, Director of Country Delivery; Fernando Martín Lagarde, Director of Policy and Regulation; Florencia Agatiello, Research Manager; Julio César Mateo, Technical Programme Manager and Agustín Pablo Russo, BESS Techincal Expert; have worked tirelessly, presenting and sharing both fundamental and complex details as the foundation for a competitive procurement programme. They collaborated closely with Senator Lisa Cummins, other public officials, and representatives from the Inter-American Development Bank, the IFC - International Finance Corporation, The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), and National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The discussions were incredibly enriching! ⚡This #workshop wasn't just about sharing knowledge; it was about building a future where Barbados thrives on 100% #renewableenergy. Our team returns home with a wealth of information and a renewed commitment to this vital endeavour. 🔋 The integration of BESS is expected to improve grid stability, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, integrate PV facilities, create jobs, and generate long-term cost savings. Together, we can make it #REAL. Let's continue to drive forward with passion and purpose! 💡✨ 🌎 #RELP, Renewables for all 🌍 Lisa Cummins Carlos B. Echeverría E. 🐟 The fisheries sector in North Maluku in Indonesia is in need of innovative cold storage solutions—a golden opportunity for #renewableenergy to shine through. In support of PLN's de-dieselization program, GEAPP's Pariphan Uawithya, Lucky Nurrahmat and Suka Pradita recently visited Ternate's cold storage and ice maker facilities to explore how reliable, affordable electricity can boost the local fishing industry and empower island communities. Stay tuned for more updates! #LetsChangeEnergy

The Alliance we call ✨GEAPP✨ is a powerful force. Take this moment for example where we were able to see #renewableenergy changing in action in India. The Rockefeller Foundation and our team in India were able to deep dive on BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) and DRE (Distributed Renewable Energy), including a visit to India's newly approved, FIRST-EVER standalone BESS project with New Delhi's utility authority. By pooling our resources and leading with a unified voice, we can change energy further, faster. #LetsChangeEnergy #SayYEStoBESS Rajiv J. Shah BSES Delhi
It was an absolute pleasure to spend time with the outstanding The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) team this week. Their pathbreaking work to unlock the battery energy storage system (BESS) market in collaboration with BSES Rajdhani Power Limited can transform India’s ET trajectory as it chases its ambitious 500GW RE target by 2030. Getting to the 500GW goal will need close to 50GW of battery storage to ensure that the national grid can maintain critical functions as it integrate more variable renewables. GEAPP’s team led by Saurabh Kumar and Umang Maheshwari undertook painstaking technical work and built a trusted relationship with the utility in order to do something that had had failed on several previous occasions - gain the confidence of the regulator to approve the countries’ first approval of a 20MW standalone BESS project. This small project is in fact a deeply consequential innovation that paves the way for a major shift in the market. GEAPP now has plans to enable 1GW in the new term, but more importantly in doing so it will build and embed the regulatory, policy and business models needs to attract commercial finance for these capital intensive investments. It was also exciting to learn from Mani Khurana that The World Bank is planning to grow its India BESS portfolio, and will be partnering closely with GEAPP to leverage the Delhi experience in many more states. This is a great example of why we all need to put a premium on real, deep collaboration and collective action. We need to bet big on the technologies that can pave a green future, and on the stakeholders that can sustain and govern these efforts for - both in the public and private sectors. To that end a huge thanks to Amal Sinha for taking the “risk” to partner so intensively with the GEAPP team. #sayyestobess The Rockefeller Foundation Woochong Um Ravi Venkatesan Rajiv J.
