The Center for Green Market Activation (GMA), a new nonprofit organization, was launched a few weeks ago to address decarbonization in some of the most carbon-intensive sectors. We rely on planes, ships, and trucks in our daily lives, and these sectors are growing. So we need to figure out how to take emissions out of them — and quickly. At the Bezos Earth Fund, we see markets as powerful vectors for change, but we don't have decades to wait for new markets to produce sustainable aviation fuel or zero-emissions maritime fuel. That's why we are proud to collaborate closely with leaders in this field to establish GMA. GMA is pioneering new models to accelerate these markets with the urgency that climate science demands. For many companies, value chain emissions associated with  suppliers and customers outside their direct control ("Scope 3") account for up to 95% of their greenhouse gas emissions. GMA was founded to create solutions for dozens of  major companies committed to addressing Scope 3 emissions in hard-to-decarbonize sectors.

This week, representatives from the Jocotoco Foundation, the Galapagos National Park Directorate (GNPD), and the Ecuadorian Navy visited the Metal Shark Boats shipyard in the United States. This company specializes in manufacturing commercial aluminum vessels designed for various activities, including control and surveillance for conservation. The primary objective of this visit was to conduct tests on an interceptor vessel that will soon be delivered to the DPNG, thanks to funding from the Bezos Earth Fund channeled through the Jocotoco Foundation. This new addition will significantly strengthen control and surveillance activities in the Galápagos Marine Reserve. Additionally, during the visit, meetings were held to review and evaluate optimal designs for oceanic vessels. These meetings aimed to identify the most suitable design to facilitate control and surveillance activities in the Hermandad Marine Reserve. We extend our gratitude to the Metal Shark team for their professionalism and dedication at every stage of the process. Esta empresa es reconocida por su especialización en la fabricación de embarcaciones comerciales de aluminio, diseñadas para diversas actividades, incluyendo el control y vigilancia para la conservación. El principal objetivo de esta visita fue realizar las pruebas de una embarcación interceptora que próximamente será entregada a la DPNG gracias al financiamiento de la Fundación Bezos y canalizados por la Funación Jocotoco. Esta nueva incorporación fortalecerá significativamente las actividades de control y vigilancia en la Reserva Marina de Galápagos. Además, durante la visita se llevaron a cabo reuniones para revisar y evaluar los diseños óptimos de embarcaciones oceánicas.
