Compton Unified’s Black Student Achievement Department offered Summer Mentorship & Leadership Workshops for African American boys and girls in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades at six of its schools including Bunche MS, Davis, Emerson, Kelly, Tibby, and Whaley during summer school. Miguel Taylor, CUSD Administrator, Office of Black Student Achievement, led the workshops designed to spark students' interest in attending college, provide them with skills they need to be successful, expose them to a range of careers, begin goal setting, build self-esteem, and comradery. The groups met both in the classroom and outside for discussions, fun outdoor activities, and valuable interactions. #BSA #career #goalsetting #collegebound #selfesteem #ComptonUnified #Elevate

At the June 25, 2024 CUSD Board Meeting, the Compton Unified School District’s Board of Trustees honored Dr. Abimbola Williams-Ajala for her 34 years of dedication and loyal service. Dr. Ajala’s inspiring career at Compton Unified began as a substitute teacher at Caldwell Elementary. She started working for the District as a teacher full-time in 1990. Throughout her career, she held many roles, including principal for ten years at Bursch Elementary School. Her school was second in the District to receive the prestigious California Distinguished School Award. She also served as an Executive Cabinet member for 16 years. Although she is retiring from her fulltime job, at the meeting, Dr. Ajala was appointed to the KIPP SoCal Public Schools as a Board of Director. CUSD is the chartering authority for KIPP Compton Community School, a nonprofit public benefit corporation. Congratulations on your well-deserved retirement. #ThankYou #Retirement #34Yearsofdedication #ComptonUnified #Elevate
