About us
Housing: The City of West Des Moines works with two housing programs in an administrative capacity: the Dallas County Local Housing Trust Fund and the Metro Home Improvement Program. The department works with the boards of directors or management committees for the different funds to set policy and oversee the operations of the programs. The department also serves as the administrator for the Community Development Block Grant Program funds the City receives through the United State Department of Housing and Urban Development. Economic Development: The department has the leading responsibility for economic development in the City. Activities include assisting small and large businesses with expansion and growth, business recruitment, marketing the city at a regional and national level, negotiating development agreements, enabling the creation of a diverse economy and employment base for the City, and expanding and diversifying the City’s tax base.

IOWA has made significant strides in the 2024 CNBC "Top States for Business" rankings, reaching 14th place, a notable improvement from its 23rd position in 2023. This jump marks its first appearance in the top 15 since 2022. The state excelled particularly in cost of living (2nd place) and business friendliness (10th place). Key improvements included its economy, which moved up nine spots, and access to capital, which improved by eight spots. Iowa also ranked 22nd in both infrastructure and workforce.
