At a trackside ceremony on the eve of the Formula E World Championship, the host City of Portland announced its signature to the #ZEVDeclaration and their commitment to phasing out the sale of fossil fuel vehicles by 2035. “Joining the ZEV Declaration is in direct alignment with the Portland ethos of protecting and preserving the environment," said Ted Wheeler, Mayor of Portland. "Being on the leading edge of a critical initiative is a familiar role for Portlanders who have always sought creative ways to solve challenges. Working to combat climate change is no different, and we welcome the opportunity to come together with forward-thinking partners from around the world.” Thanks to Envision Racing Formula E for inviting Commissioner Carmen Caballero Rubio and British Deputy Consul General Peter Newman to your garage for the signing ceremony. About us
Launched at COP27, the Accelerating to Zero (A2Z) Coalition builds off the momentous foundation of the “Zero Emission Vehicles Declaration” (ZEV Declaration) generated at COP26 by connecting the world’s leading stakeholders in zero-emission transportation. A2Z serves as a platform for signatories to coordinate, align activities, and amplify messaging as they fulfill their ambitious pledge to ensure all new car and van sales are zero emission by 2040 globally, and by 2035 in leading markets. The Accelerating to Zero Coalition is a collaboration of Ceres, Climate Group, Drive Electric Campaign, the Government of the United Kingdom, and the International Council on Clean Transportation.

🚗Our updated Land Transport Guidance marks a significant milestone in the journey towards a more sustainable automotive industry. For the first time, this update allows automakers to set science-based targets to align their largest source of emissions - those from customers driving vehicles - with the 1.5°C goal set out in the Paris Agreement. The updated guidance includes a pledge to phase out petrol and diesel vehicles by 2035 in key markets globally. It also encourages automakers to commit to Accelerating to Zero Coalition's international Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV) Declaration: a pledge to work towards all sales of new cars and vans being zero-emission globally by 2040, and by no later than 2035 in leading markets. (https://lnkd.in/e5jWQHWd). ✅The SBTi plans to evolve this guidance into a comprehensive Automotive Standard, paving the way for a more sustainable future in the automotive industry. 👉Head over to our website to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gYCKHzbG #sciencebasedtargets #netzero #automotiveindustry #SBTiScaleup

Volvo Cars announced the end of diesel production at our Climate Week NYC event this past fall and with this latest milestone are well on their way to meeting the pledge they committed to under the #ZEVDeclaration. This positive momentum is an important step towards a global emission-free #transportation sector. #mustgofaster #acceleratingtozero #zeroemission
In 1979, our first ever diesel car rolled off the production line, now, 45 years later, we watch as the last one does the same. In early February, our colleagues in Ghent built their last diesel-powered car, a V60. And just the other day, our plant in Torslanda saw its last XC90 diesel car roll off the production line. These events mark a huge milestone in our company’s 97-year long history. With this move, we’re taking a giant step toward our ambitions of becoming a fully electric car maker, as well as achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. However, our electrification journey doesn’t only include our electric vehicles, but also our strong portfolio of plug-ins and mild hybrids creating a bridge to the future. This is the end of an era, but we can’t wait for our electrifying future. #VolvoV60 #VolvoXC90 #EndofDiesel
