It starts off SO strong and I had such huge hopes. It's so easily readable and I did fly through it every time I picked it up. I was so exited to see where it was heading but the ending was so disappointing and there was so much build up for nothing. There's not much sci-fi in this which is fine but I expected a darker route and it does become repetitive with a few plot holes. I did enjoy this overall and would definitely read Greer's next book! ...more

It reminded me of a fantasy stranger Things, (I did see someone mention that in a previous review and that’s totally accurate but I’m not sure which review said it). I thought it was pretty fun especially with an adult dealing with fairies and fantasies rather than just the child.
The thing that fell short for me was that I hate epistolary formats because it makes me feel disconnected from the story. Maybe that’s just me but I’ve always hated that and didn’t know it was written this way. That being said I did like this but the letters made it less enjoyable for me.

The program is sport game where prisoners murder each other at different levels. You either win, die, or stay a prisoner.
These “games” are televised for everyone in America to watch where there people can take bets and there’s also promotions where businesses of course, capitalize on it.
This reminded me a lot of The Hunger Games (but adult) with the class divide but with more of a focus on race and gender. Theres more than just the dystopian, there are literary vibes so we get to know the stories of the characters but there are way too many of them so I began to get lost. That being said, I think the story was too long as well.
If this was shorter it would’ve definitely been stronger but I’m very picky on the length of books these days and this is almost always on my list of complaints. So maybe this is a me thing.
Overall, if this sounds interesting to you I think it’s worth the read! Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book....more
I appreciate a short audiobook but I hated the first half of this. After part 4 - things get much more interesting. Some of the writing 2.5 rounded up

Unfortunately I don't have much to say about this one. I didn't really enjoy anything about this book - the characters were all boring. I didn't find the plot anything new either and just couldn't connect it. Disappointed as I liked Terrill's previous YA book.
