It would've been a great review too but my passion died. I was deeply disappointed with this one. A Dowry of Blood was an absolute masterpiece but this seems like a completely different author wrote this one. It was incredibly slow and boring and all of the cool aspects were completely overlooked. The only black character was also used as a token back character and I don't feel that her story was shared enough and she was just used for the two men to come into each others lives. The supposed demon possession was barely a thing. There was a lot of cool aspects like I said but they were just ignored. I could go on but overall, this was not great.

The book splits into two timelines, one where she stays in NYC and one where she goes down to LA. I thought this book was just vibes, there was no dilemma or development even. Nothing really happens except of course she gets the man and girl of her dreams in each timeline. I wanted a bit more but I’m also not too mad because it was an easy read. Also the cover is cuteeee!

I was ready for cute romance but I didn’t really buy it. Both characters were not really likable. By the time it started picking up, it just felt too late for me. There's also absolutely zero world building.
So sad as I wanted to love this but thank you so much to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book!...more

Thinking she will never see him again, they meet each other again at Bingo Night. From there, their relationship progresses. This was cheesy, kind of cute but also not bad??? I won’t really remember this book and plus it was love at first sight which I don’t like. The sex scenes are cringe and graphic and I don’t care for that kind of stuff in my books. I prefer wholesome where I don’t have to roll my eyes. The scenes are also in public lol
I liked the characters and the writing, it’s a fun and fast read. I also liked the anxiety and PTSD representation and that the characters are able to bond over it and understand each other. Of course there is the inevitable drama at the end and then a happy ending too lol

I would’ve liked this more when I was younger and I think I’ve outgrown this genre. I wanted to give it a go because of the road trip traveling aspect but it wasn’t enough to keep me engaged. There’s nothing inherently wrong with this but I couldn’t get into it.

There’s something about Alison Cochrun’s books that are just delightful. I don’t like romance much but this is an author I will be auto-reading!

I won’t lie there is one thing I didn’t love but that would give spoilers but other than that I will say this is a perfect holiday read! It wraps up cutely and is overall a very sweet story. I liked the other topics it hit on such as failure and parental neglect. Can’t wait for Cochrun’s next book!

I’ve said this before and I will say it again. I’m not big on romance books but I’ve always been a fan of Emily Henry. Unfortunately this is my least I’ve said this before and I will say it again. I’m not big on romance books but I’ve always been a fan of Emily Henry. Unfortunately this is my least favorite book of hers so far and I’m disappointed.
This book is about a literary agent and an editor who are first enemies and then lovers. That in itself sounds so fun but I think the idea was wasted here. This title and cover were also wasted. Ugh this sounds so harsh and I haven’t even begun my real complaints.
Our main character is basically super jaded, uptight, and mostly cares about her job. She doesn’t believe in happy endings or being swept off her feet. Now, I liked this approach of a main character - she sounds like me!
It was really annoying was that her personality wasn’t consistent. Her and Charlie basically immediately hit it off and were never really even enemies. Charlie himself was a boring old man (or at least came off as one and I just imagined him as a grandpa the entire time).
The romance was so hurried.. The prologue/setup were so good but then everything was rushed. Everything was a bit too convenient for me as well. I just didn’t care for either character and could have cared less if they worked out or not.
I liked the writing, it’s easy to read but.. I can’t say anything else worked out for me. I really hope I like Henry’s next book because I AM SO SAD I was ready for a new favorite. Thank you to Netgalley and Berkley for an advanced copy of this book.
