Audiobook: I very much dislike the audiobook narrator. Specially because of the meak female voices he always gives to the female leads in this series. It infuriates me how weak and clueless they sound. But also because he whispers every time the characters have some internal dialogue, which I find intensely annoying and it pulls me out of the story every time. A really strange and unfortunate choice on the narrator’s part.

I really enjoyed this love story. I was truly engaged at all times so I devoured the book quickly.

On a negative note however, I am not going to lie, the age difference couple together with the fact that she is still in high-school really bothered me. A 34 year old man with an 18 year old girl…. it didn’t feel right to me, even for a fictional book my brain found it cringy and truly problematic. The upside was that neither of the characters seemed like the age that they were supposed to be, so that let me ignore the issue somewhat. The audiobook also helped me with that, since the voice of the male protagonist sounds really young, so there is that too....more

There are a few plots going on simultaneously here, some worked, some did't, but non felt well integrated with one another. I quite liked the first part of the book, later on, the romance went into a very odd territory for me, it wasn't my thing, but I was curious about it, nevertheless. The mafia plot was very badly executed from beginning to end, I did not like it.
I would have liked more time spent on the development of the emotional relationship between the two main characters, I feel like that took a second place to the physical aspect of their relationship, so I was left wanting and feeling like something was missing. Also, I would have liked more on Miles, we get very invested in him for a big chunk of the book, he is an central character in the story, but again, once the sex starts, Miles is left on the back burner like an afterthought. There should have been more there, and way less about the terribly done mafia aspect.
Overall, I would say it was a wear book, but I am not mad at it....more

BOOK 1 - Rating: 3.5 stars. It is somewhat different to other novels of this genre, due mostly to the heroin being a midwife. I enjoyed it, but it does have different moments of intensity. It engaged me more at some times than others, however, there are some situations that are definitely memorable.
This book could work just as well if the characters were older.

BOOK 2 - Rating 4.5 stars. I am very surprised about this book. It was very interesting the whole time. It made me feel angry so many times towards Gaia and her attitude about everything that was going on that I became frustrated. I love a book that awakens strong emotions in me. I enjoyed it so much! I liked the first book of this series, but Prized is definitely an improvement from the first installment. This story is more complex, it evolves fluidly and maintains your attention at all times. I have to say though, that Leon's character disappointed me a bit this time. I was expecting a deeper development in him, explanations to really show us who he is and where he is coming from.
One of the thins I appreciate most, is that this series is not immature, it doesn't have a high-school or childiss felling to it even though it is a young adult novel, thus it could function just as well if we where to age the characters.

It is just too calm and low volume for me, so it bored me. Some people might find it nice, but it wasn’t for me, I like louder, busier, stronger and spicier stories. Besides that, I actually didn't enjoy the way the story was being developed, since it felt disjointed at times and for most of the book it romanticizes abuse, right up until the very end.
