When Mercy's brother Gary shows up at her house incoherent and affected by magic, Mercy and Adam head to Montana to see if they can break the spell. There they find themselves trapped in a resort in the midst of a snowstorm with other guests of the lodge. But not everything is as it seems and Mercy and Adam must find a magical artifact before even worse things begin to happen.
Let me start this with I am being very kind with my 4 star rating. Any other author or series I probably would have rated much lower, but I absolutely love this series and Mercy. But this book really was not up to the standards of the other books in this series. It was very disjointed with bad pacing and took me a very long time to read. But it's like pizza, even when it's bad, it's good. And I'll always welcome more of these characters and this world into my life. I just hope the next installment in the series is more plot forward than this book. This book felt a lot like a side quest.

I didn't expect to love this book as much as I did. Ali Hazelwood, while I love her, has churned out fairly similar contemporary romance novels set in the academic world and I was skeptical that she could write a decent fantasy novel. I shouldn't have been because this book was frickin great! She really pulled off a great urban fantasy romance and I devoured it. I do wish worldbuilding had been a little bit stronger and that there had been a smidge more romance, but overall a great book filled with wonderful characters.

And then it became a book club book and I got so dang excited for an excuse to bump this one up.
I’ve read a few Nalini Singh books throughout the years and she truly is one of the best writers we have in the romance genre, especially paranormal romance. Her worldbuilding is top tier and reading this book I was full engrossed in the psy-changeling world.
Slave to Sensation is about Sascha, a Psy who is assigned to work with a Hunter changeling on a business project. Sascha has been hiding from the entire Psy community her entire life what she truly is: broken. For if they found out she could feel, she would be eliminated. Lucas is drawn to her right away, but most importantly he needs her to help track a Psy serial killer.
I really enjoyed this book and I am glad there are already so many books in this series because I can just dive into all of them if I want to. I love in shifter romance when we get a possessive yet loving hero and Lucas was just perfect. Mostly I loved Sascha’s journey of discovering what her life could be and letting go of her toxic community and background. I think a lot of this book was a metaphor for leaving toxic home situations and a new life with a found family. I absolutely loved it and I am excited to read more....more

The vampire Wulfe has been stalking Mercy, seemingly harmless, for months. But when Wulfe goes missing, the Tri-Cities Pack is blamed. The mistress of the local vampire seethe calls on Mercy and the Pack to find Wulfe or the alliance between them will be broken. The more Mercy and the Pack investigate, they realize that all the vampires in the local area have gone missing along with a few white witches.
The Mercy Thompson series has been one of my favorites for years and I love every single installment. This one took me longer to read but mostly because life got busy and I didn’t have much time for it. It didn’t take away from my enjoyment at all, but I do feel it was slower paced than the last book. Still, it has a good mystery, ghosts, fae, werewolves, witches and vampires so my urban fantasy cravings were satisfied.
I loved revisiting with characters that feel like family, I could easily get lost in this world that Briggs has created. I just wish I wasn’t caught up on this series and Alpha and Omega, I want to spend more time in this world! Maybe a reread is sooner in my future than I figured…
If you haven’t read this series yet, please do. You are missing out on something special!

The Witch’s Heart is a norse mythology fantasy novel. Angrboda has lived two lives, and after the last one left her burned and with her heart removed she flees deep into the woods into a cave. There, Loki finds her and returns her heart to her and the two develop a special bond. But Angrboda cannot hide in her cave forever, as there are those who seek her and want her to do their bidding.
“My heart is so much more than it once was, even if it now beats outside my chest.”
I really loved the first hundred pages of this book, they were so compelling and I was devouring the book. And then, after that things started to get… weird. I would say this book is the norse version of Circe by Madeline Miller, probably the best readalike out there. I’m not as familiar with norse mythology but I was able to follow the book for the most part and enjoyed it. I just didn’t love the second half of the book (with the exception of Skadi) and I thought the pacing was off.
A great debut novel from this author, I liked it and would be willing to read more by her.

After reading this book I cannot decide if I want to wrap Patricia Briggs in a big old hug, or strangle her. I’m kidding, kind of. Let’s just say she left us hanging a little bit at the end like she usually does and I am already anxious to read the next book.
Wild Sign follows Anna and Charles as they investigate a community in Northern California that just completely disappeared, and no one knows why. The case is given to them by the FBI as the land is owned by a member of the pack and seems to fall under their jurisdiction. Anna, Charles, and a third wolf Tad, try to solve the mystery together.
I friggin love Patricia Briggs. This world she’s created with these books, I honestly want to live in it (despite it being very dangerous). The world building is so expertly done, and the characters all feel so real. I loved the concept of this book, of a hidden creature that has power through song and music.
I loved that we got to know a little bit more about Leah. And honestly at this point, I kind of thing we the fans need to demand a Leah and Bran spinoff series. I feel like even though I love Anna and Charles, the relationship I want to dive into the most is Bran and Leah. They’re both so layered.
The Alpha and Omega series and the Mercy Thompson series are some of the best urban fantasy books out there. Somehow, they consistently get better with every book even when I don’t understand how that can be possible....more

Okay, I never thought I’d say this about a Green Creek book but…. I DID NOT LOVE THIS BOOK.
I loved Wolfsong, it’s one of my all time favorite books ever. And books 2 and 3 I loved. But this book failed to give me the feels that I am accustomed to with a Klune book. I’ve noticed his more recent books don’t fo it for me like his previous books. Maybe it’s just me. There were a few sweet moments and a few really funny ones. But overall this book was wayyy too long. If it hadn’t been a Klune book I probably would have quit about one hundred pages in because nothing was happening.
Overall I liked this book, but it failed to live up to the other books in this series for me....more

I kind of wish I had just stopped reading the series at book 13. Harrison ended it so perfectly. While I was excited to get back into The Hollows, my mind is screaming “not like this”. When I started this book it felt really good to be back in The Hollows with Rachel and the gang, but halfway through I realized this book was waaaayyyy too long winded and the plot was all over. I ended up kind of skimming until the end, which I also somewhat hated. Not sure if I will continue this series if there are more books, I should have let it be. ...more

This is the first book during the Covid19 pandemic that I was able to pick up and completely escape into. I’m not at all surprised, Briggs is a master of storytelling. In these dark times, reading this book was like being able to visit with old friends again. I was so happy to be amongst Mercy and the Pack, and all the characters we have grown to love over the years. I loved it, the perfect escape. And if you haven’t read this series, now is the time to start!

Heartsong is book three in the Green Creek series and yes, you do need to read books 1 and 2 before this one. Plus, you really should just read them, period. The beginning of this book is a tad bit confusing, not gonna lie I picked it up and put it down after 5% or so. It wasn’t until another book friend *cough* Christy *cough* encouraged me to pick it up again that I did and I regret not just slogging through because when this book gets going, it takes off.
I don’t want to say much about the plot because I feel most of what I would say would be a spoiler. But I will say I was so happy to be among the Bennett pack again. SO MANY friggin feels in this book, which is to be expected. ALL THE FEELS! And I am dying to read the next book and it’s going to be torture waiting for it.
TJ, you are the best. Keep writing these magical books!

When Bran leaves on a mysterious trip to Africa, Charles is left to run the pack in Montana. One day he gets a distress call from one of the Wildlings, pack members who live in the woods and don’t have much control. When Charles and Anna investigate, they discover one of their wolves being abducted.
It becomes very clear that the pack has a traitor among them, but who? And why?
“Canadian hikers would be too polite to end up as bodies. Thus the bodies must not belong to random hikers.”
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it a million times. I love this series for the characters. Some of the side plots… meh. My favorite part of this book was the development of the character, Leah. I’ve always felt there was more to her and now that I’ve seen there is, I am dying for a Bran and Leah book.
The more recent Briggs villains in both the Mercy Thompson series and the Alpha and Omega tend to be witches. I am wondering if they are both leading to some epic battle with both series and I am so down for that. I’m dying to know when the next book is coming!

“That is the dual gift of love, isn’t it? The joy of greeting and the sorrow of good-bye.”
I am so glad I came back to this series. I had originally given up on it, but I did an audio reread of the first three books and made it to the fourth.
In Dead Heat, Charles and Anna travel to Arizona to visit an old friend. While they are there, they come across a series of horrible crimes involving children and a fae. Now it’s a matter of racing the clock before this evil fae takes another child.
“If you make my children, make any child, feel bad for who they are, I will teach you why people fear mama grizzlies more than papa grizzlies.”
I honestly don’t love this series for the plot, I love it for the characters and the world building. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: I need a character driven novel to enjoy a book. If I don’t care about the characters, I am done. I do wish I enjoyed the plot more in this series, but I find it operates in circles around the core issue and not in a straight line (if that makes any sense).
This is a solid urban fantasy series, if you haven’t picked it up, be sure to do it soon!

“Rumors said that if he got drunk enough, he sometimes got his jollies by stripping naked and scaring hikers out in the Broken into thinking he was Bigfoot.”
I really enjoyed this book! On the Edge is about Rose, a young woman raising her two younger brothers in a world “on the edge” of the broken (aka our world) and the weird. Strange creatures keep popping up in the edge leading Rose to team up with a stranger from the “weird” to save the edge community.
“Yes, I'm too mad to punish you right now. We'll talk about it when we get home. Go brush your teeth, comb your hair, put on dry clothes, and get the guns. We're going to Wal-Mart.”
I was completely absorbed into this book. I listened to the audiobook and it was an effortless experience, I didn’t tune out on accident at all and it captivated my attention from beginning to end. I love Ilona Andrews and how excellent they are at worldbuilding. I kept thinking to myself, how do they come up with these ideas?? I never could (which is why I am a reader and a reviewer, not an author).
An excellent urban fantasy novel, I cannot wait to dive into the rest of the series. Ilona Andrews is an author duo I have come to count on for amazing original content.
“Give me a few minutes.” “You have time.” He sat in the grass. “Are you just going to sit there and watch me?” “Yes. Watching pretty peasant girls is what we poor little rich boys do best.” “Peasant?” He shrugged. “You started the name calling.”

Um............... I wish I had read this book before I started the Alpha and Omega series. Seriously, every edition of book 1 should have this at the beginning so we know what the fuck is going on. I got the backstory of these characters after the fact. Aside from that, this was a really great beginning short story and it shows how Anna and Charles meet. I was very interested in the romance and the mystery, and I think for a short story it packed a lot of punch.
I listened to the audio of this book and liked the narrator for the most part, but I cringe in general when men try to talk in "girl voice" and vice versa. So that took away a bit for me because the inflections he used for Anna were not how I read her when I read the book instead of listening. Now, onto re-reading the next book via audio!
Love Patricia Briggs, I wish she would publish 5 books a year.

"One by one Two by two, The Hardesty witches are traveling through."
I don't know how Briggs nails it every time but she does. Mercy Thompson is a series I've been reading almost since it started, and though time goes by and my reading tastes change, this series holds its own and remains a constant source of joy for me.
In the previous book Mercy made the tri-cities area a safe haven for citizens in her territory. Now with that proclamation, she needs to uphold it. When a new coven of witches comes in and threatens everything, she must fight them to keep those close to her safe.

First things first, miniature zombie goats. Who knew that would be a thing and that it would be cute and hilarious? A very riveting book for me, most of it I couldn't put the kindle down. My only thing is I wish I had a character guide, because as I approach my 30s, I cannot remember a damn thing and didn't know who some of these people were because it's been so long since I last read a Briggs book.
Honestly one of my favorite books of 2019. If you haven't read this series, seriously get your act together and make it work. I can honestly say this series only gets better and better.

In this epic final novel, Katie Lennart faces a huge threat and must rely on alliances with enemies in order for Atlanta to stand.
I really enjoyed this final novel in this series. It’s a really solid urban fantasy series with a heroine who is everything a strong female character should be. My absolute favorite part of this book was baby Conlan and all of his developments. It reminded me a lot of Jack Jack in The Incredibles 2 and added a nice touch of humor to a story that would normally be pretty grim.
The ending was amazing!!! I kept wondering how everything would play out, the last 20% of the book was so compelling and suspenseful. A lot of issues were resolved, some heartbreak was involved. I teared up frequently as I was reading. I find I’m also left with questions and hoping Julie gets a book. I also felt the lack of Ascansio in this final story and found I really missed his witty presence I had grown used to in the previous novels.
I think Ilona Andews have made a great place for themselves in the fantasy genre and I can only see good things coming from them in the future. I’ll need to read all their other series to fill the hole in my heart the Kate Daniels series has left.
