When Mercy's brother Gary shows up at her house incoherent and affected by magic, Mercy and Adam head to Montana to see if they can break the spell. There they find themselves trapped in a resort in the midst of a snowstorm with other guests of the lodge. But not everything is as it seems and Mercy and Adam must find a magical artifact before even worse things begin to happen.
Let me start this with I am being very kind with my 4 star rating. Any other author or series I probably would have rated much lower, but I absolutely love this series and Mercy. But this book really was not up to the standards of the other books in this series. It was very disjointed with bad pacing and took me a very long time to read. But it's like pizza, even when it's bad, it's good. And I'll always welcome more of these characters and this world into my life. I just hope the next installment in the series is more plot forward than this book. This book felt a lot like a side quest.

I really enjoyed this author's previous book The Hacienda and was excited to pick up Vampires of El Norte. While I enjoyed it in the end, the 3 stars
I really enjoyed this author's previous book The Hacienda and was excited to pick up Vampires of El Norte. While I enjoyed it in the end, there was a point maybe 70% in where I considered dnf-ing this book because quite honestly: this book was kind of boring. It was also filled with a second chance childhood sweetheart romance that was fairly lackluster. But the best parts were the fighting scenes at the end, otherwise this would have been a 2 star read....more

But Misery has her own agenda, and she plans to infiltrate the wolves to get what she wants.
I didn't expect to love this book as much as I did. Ali Hazelwood, while I love her, has churned out fairly similar contemporary romance novels set in the academic world and I was skeptical that she could write a decent fantasy novel. I shouldn't have been because this book was frickin great! She really pulled off a great urban fantasy romance and I devoured it. I do wish worldbuilding had been a little bit stronger and that there had been a smidge more romance, but overall a great book filled with wonderful characters.
I will say I laughed my butt off when I read (view spoiler)[ that the MC had a knot on his penis that served as a magical vagina plug (hide spoiler)] but otherwise this book was solid....more

A MFFM romance between four vampires spread throughout the decades. This was an easy read and I enjoyed it for the most part, I just think in a few months I will forget the finer details. During the tournament she meets the vampire Raihn, who is dangerous, but the two strike up an alliance to make it to the end of the Kejari.
This book started out really slow and I almost called it quits, but I pushed through and right at the right time it picked up. It's not the most unique or original, but it has a compulsive reading quality to it and the last 30% of the book I couldn't put it down. I liked both of the main characters a lot, Oraya is an interesting heroine who always has to be on guard. Raihn was the vampire we didn't expect, who behaves almost human. The romance was very well done and I enjoyed being along for the ride while reading this book. I must dive into book two asap!...more

Kat Finn is a teen vampire living with her single mother, struggling to make ends meet. All vampires drink Hema, a blood substitute, to survive ever since humanity has become infected with a virus that kills vampires. When Kat is accepted into a private vampire high school on financial aid, her mother isn’t happy about it, but doesn’t stop her from going. There Kat runs into an ex-friend from her childhood, Taylor, and they find they are new roommates.
I listened to the audiobook version of this and enjoyed it, mostly. I do think it was a tad bit longer than it needed to be and near the end I kind of wanted the author to get to the point. I will say the worldbuilding was excellent, there’s something about a vampire boarding school for young vampire teens that is just so cool in concept, I want to see it on tv or in a movie. I really liked the character of Kat and her journey, Taylor wasn’t really my favorite but she grew on me after a while. Mostly I am glad we are able to get a fun lesbian vampire boarding school teen novel and I can’t wait to recommend it to readers who I think would enjoy it....more

The vampire Wulfe has been stalking Mercy, seemingly harmless, for months. But when Wulfe goes missing, the Tri-Cities Pack is blamed. The mistress of the local vampire seethe calls on Mercy and the Pack to find Wulfe or the alliance between them will be broken. The more Mercy and the Pack investigate, they realize that all the vampires in the local area have gone missing along with a few white witches.
The Mercy Thompson series has been one of my favorites for years and I love every single installment. This one took me longer to read but mostly because life got busy and I didn’t have much time for it. It didn’t take away from my enjoyment at all, but I do feel it was slower paced than the last book. Still, it has a good mystery, ghosts, fae, werewolves, witches and vampires so my urban fantasy cravings were satisfied.
I loved revisiting with characters that feel like family, I could easily get lost in this world that Briggs has created. I just wish I wasn’t caught up on this series and Alpha and Omega, I want to spend more time in this world! Maybe a reread is sooner in my future than I figured…

Nightfall is a revamped (heh, see what I did there?) version of LH Cosway’s earlier books originally called Tegan’s Blood. It follows a young cashier who meets two vampires while working in a grocery shop and her life takes a dramatic turn just from that one encounter.
I am conflicted. LH Cosway is one of my favorite authors and while I liked this book, I am not sure if I want to read the rest of the series. Cosway always creates characters that are amazing, but the plot and worldbuilding in this book were seriously lacking for me. That coupled with a weak romance, is it even worth it to continue? Let me start with this, I read Twilight when I was in high school and I loved it. I remember the trailer for the movie releasing and me freaking out in my dorm room over it. I truly loved these books when they came out, but like with most huge successes, the craziness of the entire fandom turned me off the books and the movies. Years later I can separate the fandom from the product and I am able to enjoy Twilight again.
I remember being so upset when Meyer had said she wouldn’t release Midnight Sun, but now what like, twelve years later we got it! And I was still pretty excited. But, I don’t know if it was the time gap that changed my tastes or Meyer’s writing style. I just wasn’t in love with this book. It felt really longwinded and I feel about 200+ pages easily could have been cut out. It’s like when authors gain a certain amount of fame, the publishers just let them do whatever they want instead of implementing a much needed tougher editing process. But they probably don’t care because they know the author name will make money no matter what. And that’s really frustrating as a reader.
There were parts of this book I really got into, but mostly I wasn’t interested in Edward’s side of things. I do love the original books and movies, and if anything this book made me want to reread/rewatch those. That’s my silver lining here....more

I kind of wish I had just stopped reading the series at book 13. Harrison ended it so perfectly. While I was excited to get back into The Hollows, my mind is screaming “not like this”. When I started this book it felt really good to be back in The Hollows with Rachel and the gang, but halfway through I realized this book was waaaayyyy too long winded and the plot was all over. I ended up kind of skimming until the end, which I also somewhat hated. Not sure if I will continue this series if there are more books, I should have let it be. ...more

I didn't mind the writing style of this book, even with it being translated from Polish to English, but I've never been a big fan of the collected stories format and that's what this felt like to me. I didn't feel a real structure of a story and and that was really hard on me.
There were parts where I couldn't put the book down, and parts where all I wanted to do was skim. Overall, this book was okay for me, so I am rating it 2 stars. No intention of reading the other novels, but I will definitely be watching the show....more

I feel like I've smoked crack or something because everyone loved this book except me. I've been reading it for over a week and barely made it halfway. This book is longwinded and BORING. Where is the JLA I used to love??? This isn't her. So disappointed, this was one of my most anticipated reads this year and it felt like I was slogging through mud to read it.

"One by one Two by two, The Hardesty witches are traveling through."
I don't know how Briggs nails it every time but she does. Mercy Thompson is a series I've been reading almost since it started, and though time goes by and my reading tastes change, this series holds its own and remains a constant source of joy for me.
In the previous book Mercy made the tri-cities area a safe haven for citizens in her territory. Now with that proclamation, she needs to uphold it. When a new coven of witches comes in and threatens everything, she must fight them to keep those close to her safe.

First things first, miniature zombie goats. Who knew that would be a thing and that it would be cute and hilarious? A very riveting book for me, most of it I couldn't put the kindle down. My only thing is I wish I had a character guide, because as I approach my 30s, I cannot remember a damn thing and didn't know who some of these people were because it's been so long since I last read a Briggs book.
Honestly one of my favorite books of 2019. If you haven't read this series, seriously get your act together and make it work. I can honestly say this series only gets better and better.

Buffy was my whole life from age 12 to................. well present. It's the show that defined me. I made lifelong friendships because of my love for this show. When I found out there was a YA novel set in the Buffyverse I was so excited! But honestly..... this book was BORING.
Hopes and dreams dashed. Most anticipated book of 2019 was a flop.
In this epic final novel, Katie Lennart faces a huge threat and must rely on alliances with enemies in order for Atlanta to stand.

In this epic final novel, Katie Lennart faces a huge threat and must rely on alliances with enemies in order for Atlanta to stand.
I really enjoyed this final novel in this series. It’s a really solid urban fantasy series with a heroine who is everything a strong female character should be. My absolute favorite part of this book was baby Conlan and all of his developments. It reminded me a lot of Jack Jack in The Incredibles 2 and added a nice touch of humor to a story that would normally be pretty grim.
The ending was amazing!!! I kept wondering how everything would play out, the last 20% of the book was so compelling and suspenseful. A lot of issues were resolved, some heartbreak was involved. I teared up frequently as I was reading. I find I’m also left with questions and hoping Julie gets a book. I also felt the lack of Ascansio in this final story and found I really missed his witty presence I had grown used to in the previous novels.
I think Ilona Andews have made a great place for themselves in the fantasy genre and I can only see good things coming from them in the future. I’ll need to read all their other series to fill the hole in my heart the Kate Daniels series has left.
