CS Pacat is an author I've read before and didn't super love, but a book friend asked me to trust them that this was good so I did, and I really liked this book a lot. I listened to the audiobook which was excellently done.
There were lots of fantasy bits that I didn't quite compute, but am told book 2 helps make a lot of sense of book one so I'll read it soon. I really liked the worldbuilding and characters in this book a lot and would love to see more of both in the series. You can also tell when reading this book that the author put their heart and soul into writing it....more

I've really become a fan of Lisa Gardner this year and have really enjoyed this Frankie Elkin series. The third book in the series, it can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading the other two books first. Frankie is contacted by the lawyer of a female serial killer on death row. The woman wants Frankie to find her missing sister, and after some convincing Frankie agrees and is flown to a remote island off the coast of Hawaii to search for her undercover at a resort.
I saw a lot of reviews not enjoying this latest installment in the series and I can see why. A lot of the plot near the end was a bit over the top, but I felt the same way about the second book in the series too. You kind of just need to go with the flow on these books and remember it's fiction and of course none of this would happen in real life. I like Frankie a lot as a main character, her snark and her need to find missing people. I also think Lisa Gardner is excellent at pacing, which not many authors are and I really appreciate that there aren't many lulls in her books. I'm excited for whenever the next book comes out, if there is one....more

I found the beginning of this book disjointed and confusing (probably because I didn't read the book that came before this one even though this is a standalone) and I didn't always feeling the yearning between the two main characters.
I thought Catherine/Ying Ying was an outstanding heroine, she was so interesting and had many qualities you don't normally read in a historical romance. I wish I saw more heroines like her in my romance novels....more

When asked to attend a party of a mummy unwrapping, Mallory and Dr. Gray find a more recent body instead.
Kelley Armstrong is one of my all time favorite authors and this book proved yet again why I love her. I was riveted by this book and was finding excuses to keep listening to it as much as possible. In some regards in this third book we got some closure as the reader on certain topics. But what I really love is Mallory the main character and all of the relationships she has built with all of the side characters. That's what Kelley does best, bringing a cast of characters to life as if they're people you would know, even in Victorian Scotland.
This has quickly become one of my favorite series, and I hope there's a plan for MANY installments in the future because I cannot get enough of them.

I think Myah Ariel is a wonderful writer and I am very excited to see what else she writes in the future. For me, second chance romance is a genre/trope close to my heart. This book, the author didn't sell me on the couple's previous romance enough for me to really feel why they were drawn to each other years later. This book was a good example of when authors tell you things instead of showing you.

My toxic trait is I read Ruth Ware's books, rate them 3 or below and keep on reading more by her. I'll give her one thing, she's a great writer, she's just not great at executing mysteries (at least to my tastes).
This book was probably my least favorite by her, and my most anticipated as it's her most popular. I am looking forward to the adaptation of this book as I love Keira Knightley. But I thought this book while easy to read, lacked focus and was all over the place in terms of plot. Lots of telling and not showing. That being said I absolutely will continue to read Ware's books, as long as I keep finding them in little free libraries (and I always do)....more

It was a bit hard to get into at first, but as the story progressed and we got closer and closer to the truth I found myself really wanting to know what happened. I thought this book was super cute, in a lot of ways it reminded me of the Netflix series XOXO Kitty (I believe this book came out first, not sure). But also as a millennial woman in my 30's I am not the target demographic and it wasn't for me, nor was it meant for me! I mostly read it to complete my A-Z title reading challenge for a title with the letter "X".
A sweet romance between a music student and a K-Pop star. I had fun reading along as the main character moved from the USA to Korea and all of the stories of her making new friends and getting to know her grandmother better. The cast of characters is what made this book strong for me. But reading this book helped me realize (even more than I already have) that I think my reading tastes are evolving away from YA....more

Using documents her great-aunt left behind, Annie begins to unwind the web surrounding Frances' death. But she isn't the only one trying to solve the murder, and whomever does first, inherits everything.
I thought the first half of this book was a little boring and stilted. I actually almost quit but decided to keep listening and I am glad I did because the second half was way better than the first half. Lots of the dialogue felt very stiff and disjointed but got better. And the overall mystery of everything picked up and the story got going a lot better. I had trouble keeping track of a lot of the characters, but I did really like Annie as a main character and would be willing to try more books if she is in them....more

This third book was overly long and over-explained SO MUCH, which yes the first books also did, but not to this extent. I loved all of the characters in books 1 and 2 and became so attached to them and with this book I did not care at all what happened to them. I almost wish I hadn't read this book and just lived in ignorant bliss with the first two. I devoured the first two books and it took me over two months to finish this one because it was so slow and boring.
I'll still read Novik in the future, but this book made me think she was given too much freedom with her writing and I really wish an editor had come in and cut off a lot of the over-explaining of things because it was just too much....more

Mehr is the illegitimate daughter of the Governor, and her mother is Amrithi, outcasts in society. But being half-Amrithi means Mehr has inherited magic and those in power seek to use it for their own gain.
As I said before this book was written so beautifully and I loved listening along to the story. It's not necessarily groundbreaking, but also it doesn't have to be! (I say this because of reviews I saw complaining about that). I loved Mehr and Amun and the wonderful love story they had in this book. Amun is one of the great book boyfriends!

It's not the fault of this book that I don't care for novellas but even though books 1 and 2 of this series were five star reads for me, this one was too short for me to be invested/love it. Taking place between books 2 and 3, this novella follows Mallory as she follows a housemaid into an underground crime ring.

It's been awhile since I've read a good M/M romance and boy did this book deliver!
Is this book perfect? No. Do I give a shit? Not at all.
Him is the story of Jamie and Wes. The two have been summer camp best friends ever since they were 13. They were inseparable, always playing hockey together and playing pranks. The last summer they have at camp changes everything, and Wes completely cuts off Jamie leaving Jamie hurt and wondering what he had done.
Fast forward four years later and both are on their college hockey teams and competing in the same tournament. For Wes seeing Jamie stirs up old feelings he had for his best friend. Spur of the moment he accepts a job coaching at his old summer camp for 6 weeks, alongside Jamie. The two mend their bridges, but as time goes by Wes knows his feelings for his old friend haven't gone away. But Jamie is straight....or is he?
This was the ultimate guilty pleasure read. I love GFY romances and unrequited love stories so this fit my tastes perfectly. I loved both of these guys. Cocky, arrogant and yet vulnerable Wes. California golden boy Jamie. Both were suited perfectly to each other and made the best couple.
An emotional rollercoaster I didn't want to get off of, I read this straight through in a day. Although I ignored a friends advice to not read this in public and ended up blushing and having to put the kindle away until I got home because there are some steamy scenes in this book y'all. So prepare yourselves!
Recommended for fans of the Try series by Ella Frank, M/M romance readers, and Elle Kennedy fans. Also I've never read anything by Sarina Bowen until this book and I will have to remedy that VERY soon....more
