This one is my FAVORITE of the Experiment in Terror series. You want to know why? Because it scares the shit outta me. Even on the rereads, it's still terrifying.
One day I shall do a proper review. But today, I am going to pick the kindle back up and dive right into book 6. These books are seriously that good....more

The best part of Lying Season is how everything just builds and builds and builds. And then that ending!!! Omg, most readers probably think it’s torture, but that ending I eat up like a bowl of ice cream. I LOVE IT. Not going to write much else. If you haven’t read this series yet, you need to. It’s so damn good....more

The third installment in the Experiment in Terror series, Dex and Perry head to a haunted island in Canada hoping to catch footage of a ghost leper colony. Isolated on the island together, Dex and Perry begin to slowly slide into paranoia and mistrust of each other while a threat looms in the background, waiting to pounce.
“In all of our experiences together, there always was that moment that I could have turned back and I never ever did. Even if it scared me to the core, to the very soul and fiber of my being, I still went forward into the unknown. Some may call that brave. I don't think I'd call it that. Stubborn beyond repair seemed more fitting.”
While I love the first two books in the series, for me, this is the book where things finally begin to take off. It’s incredibly scary, scarier than Darkhouse and Red Fox. And I feel it sets in motion the events of the rest of the series. There’s also more romance involved in this book and I am so beyond excited to reread book four, you have no idea.
It’s been maybe seven years since I first read this book and it’s funny how some moments are crystal clear in my memory, and other scary parts that I must have repressed haha. Overall a fantastic book and I wish more of my friend would read this series. Hence why I am reviewing it years later.

After filming a show together in the Pacific Northwest, Perry and Dex meet up again to film a second episode of their show in the small town of Red Fox, New Mexico. Hoping to catch signs of a possible poltergeist on film, Perry and Dex realize they are in over their heads with possible skinwalkers on the ranch they are filming at.
“You’re like a ghost magnet. Why do you think I like having you around?” My mouth dropped momentarily. “Because I’m awesome.” “Oh, well, that too.”
Red Fox isn’t my favorite of the EIT series, but it’s still enjoyable nevertheless. What I enjoyed most about this book on my reread was seeing Maximus with more knowledgeable eyes. Also the buildup of the romance between Dex and Perry. Halle nailed the atmosphere in this book and it had many twists and turns throughout the plot. Like Darkhouse, this book wasn’t super scary to me, but I know the next few books will be terrifying and I look forward to it.
“Dex,” I whispered. “Mmmm?” he grunted. “I hope you never stop feeling alive.” I could have sworn his heart skipped a few beats. He tensed. Then relaxed. “As long as you’re around,” he said softly, “I’ll be alive.” ...more
“Somehow, by dealing with the dead, I had never felt so alive.”

I still remember the day I first started this series so clearly. It was summer of 2013, I had just returned to LA after a month long trip to Africa, and I had jury duty. While I was waiting for hours in that room for my name to be called, I read the first three Experiment in Terror books right then and there. I was hooked! I remember being mad when I was selected to be on a jury, because I had to focus on that case and the facts instead of continuing the series like I wanted to. (Luckily it was only 2 days or so, and then I was back to binging this series anytime I wanted).
Darkhouse is about 22 year old Perry Palomino. While visiting her uncle with her family, she wanders off from a bonfire party at the beach and breaks into an old abandoned lighthouse. While there she bumps into Dex, another person eager to explore the lighthouse, but he’s there to see if something supernatural happens. Perry captures their experience on camera and posts it online, when it becomes viral. Dex and Perry decide to venture into the lighthouse again, but what will they encounter this time?
“I used to dream big. It seemed like somewhere along the way I had forgotten about that. And gave up.”
This is one of my all time favorites series ever. I’ve never found anything else that compares to it. Horror and romance all mixed into one, and this series seriously just becomes better with every single book. It’s funny, because when I read this book in 2013, I related to Perry so much. In a way I still do because to me, she represents a younger version of myself. And I have to say, I didn’t realize until recently that this was Halle’s first book ever, and I gotta say she really knocked it outta the park with this one. For a debut novel, it’s fantastic!
While this is horror, I don’t feel this first book is that scary, so if you are on the edge about this series I encourage you to test the waters with this first book. In my opinion, these books started to scare the shit out of me by about book 3 or 4. And by then you’re invested in the romance! I cannot recommend this series enough, I wish all my friends would read it. It’s totally worth it, and they’re all finished now so you don’t have to wait for the next book like I had to!

This is a book I read before I started reviewing and blogging, and it's oh so special to me. Cat and Bones are my favorite PNR couple, and when I recently got myself into a horrifyingly bad book slump, I turned to them for help. I've read this book so many times I've lost count, but I always find something new to appreciate I may have never noticed the first time around. I am so very tempted to continue rereading the rest of this series, and switching to PNR books only for a while. They are my first love of the romance genre, maybe I need to go back to my roots........more

You know, I think this book gets a bad rap. Yes Harry is angsty. Yes it's a tad bit whiny. But after having read the whole series, while Goblet was the turning point, Order of the Phoenix was where we saw the universe change and set the course for the rest of the series. PLUS it's the book that introduced Luna Lovegood!!!! How could it not be a great book???
Spoilers ahead for those who haven't read the series (and if you haven't I can't even with you). This takes place after the murder of Cedric Diggory and everyone is prepping to face the Dark Lord. Harry is often kept out of the loop, which doesn't help because he's feeling isolated as is. When the Ministry of Magic starts interfering at Hogwart's, things can only go down from there...
“Hello, Harry" said George, beaming at him. "We thought we heard your dulcet tones."
"You don't want to bottle up your anger like that, Harry, let it all out," said Fred, also beaming. "There might be a couple of people fifty miles away who didn't hear you.”
Love this book! Despite the shouty caps angst from Harry, this book is full of fun moments and information I missed the first time around. It's also Harry's book of disillusionment, with Dumbledore and the memory of his father. There were also giant hints at Snape and Lily in this one that are so much more obvious now...
I loved getting to know more about Neville, dear sweet boy he is. I kind of want a spinoff series from his point of view, kind of like Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow. Plus I loved that we get to know Ginny a bit more in this book too, now that she's not afraid to talk in front of Harry.
Anyways, love this book. I recommend y'all read it or reread it.
