The New Croton Dam in Cortlandt, NY. This dam on the Croton River has created the New Croton Reservoir, part of NYC's water supply.
The dam is part natural (the left), part artificial, and too far from home to become a regular shooting location.

“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the light.” (Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, 2004)
There has been an unintended theme running through my last few photographs I have uploaded and that is light surrounded by darkness. I really hope that this year brings happiness to everyone this year.
Happy new beginnings!

I have only been to New York City a few times, but each time is very memorable. It is a city of contrasts–between the rich and the poor, the classy and the kitsch, the serious and the irreverent. Needless to say, it’s a great place for street photography.

A shot of the New Croton Dam. Surprisingly this beautiful place isn't located to far from the city. Me and the fiance took a trip up here despite the rain and grabbed some shots. I had brought my fishing pole with me but was unable to fish due to the rain. I would have tried though if I had the right rain gear :p

With northeast Pennsylvania’s trees in early blaze mode, a northbound Delaware & Hudson train rolls near the quiet borough of New Milford on its way from Scranton to Binghamton. Bicentennial TE56-4A (a Morrison-Knudsen rebuilt RS3) 506 and RS11 5002 are doing the honors.

Took a breather while batty-fanging around New Babbage and caught a glimpse of myself as I was camming around and couldn’t get over the cuteness of this whole ensemble and new skin from kooqla… so I had to take another shot. I wasn’t very fond of the thick lips on my sauce-box but they are .....

The New Whitney Museum Building, pretty much completed on the outside, its interior feverishly being worked on for the grand opening on May 1 2015, to be followed by free admission to museum on Saturday May 2 with a block party there in the Meat Packing district and the Highline Park. The beautiful creation of architect Renzo Piano situated between the southernmost part of the Highline Park and the Hudson River in nearly complete in this image taken in early April 2015. The beautiful asymmetrical structure features 50,000 square feet of indoor galleries and 13,000 square feet of outdoor exhibition space that will face the Highline Park. The museum’s current uptown address is currently closed as the move and preparations for the grand opening continue. That location will be used by the Metropolitan Museum of Art going forward for the time being. This new location brings the museum closer to where the original museum that was founded by Gertrude Whitney in 1930 in Greenwich Village which is really next door. I had posted a picture on my photostream of the museum in progress a few years back see this link[ flic.kr/p/ebsN7o ]. Taken handheld with Olympus E-5, manual using a 12-60mm F/2.8-4.0 Olympus Zuiko Digital Lens, raw file processed using Adobe Lightroom.
