This is a shot of upper and lower Old Quebec.

Québec was founded by the French explorer Champlain in the early 17th century. It is the only North American city to have preserved its ramparts.

The Häderlis Bridge is a historic stone arch bridge over the Reuss River in the Schöllenen Gorge near Göschenen, Canton of Uri. The bridge from the 17th century was destroyed by a flood in 1987 and rebuilt true to the original until 1991.

This log cabin from the early 1800s was originally in Mono Hills, Ontario, but it was moved to the Bradley Estate and Museum in Clarkson. It was built as a quick and easy, interim shelter for early settler families to occupy. It uses 16 and 20 foot logs that have been squared, grooved and peaked. Holes were drilled vertically through the logs at the corners for the oak pegs. I used a sepia grunge (my own) on my greyscale photo to give the two-tone effect. The Historic Waukesha Courthouse was built in 1893 in the Romanesque style by architects Charles H Rau & Robert George Kirsch.

This is known as The Masters House, Now a listed Building it was built in 1780.

Lots of delicious decay and some great light/shadow. I liked this view too because of the great depth we were able to get. This was at the abandoned Fisher Plant. We didn't even have to go inside to get this shot! Sad to say it is even way more decayed than the last time we were there.

The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, often abbreviated as the D&SNG, is a 3 ft (914 mm) narrow-gauge heritage railroad that operates on 45.2 mi (72.7 km) of track between Durango and Silverton in the U.S. state of Colorado. The railway is a federally designated National Historic Landmark and was also designated by the American Society of Civil Engineers as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 1968..

The route was originally opened in 1882 by the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW) to transport silver and gold ore mined from the San Juan Mountains. The line was an extension of the D&RG 3 ft (914 mm) narrow-gauge line from Antonito, Colorado to Durango. The last train to operate into Durango from the east was on December 6, 1968. The states of New Mexico and Colorado purchased 64 miles between Antonito and Chama, New Mexico, in 1970 and operates today as the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad (C&TSRR). Trackage between Chama and Durango was removed by 1971.

The line from Durango to Silverton has run continuously since 1881, although it is now a tourist and heritage line hauling passengers and is one of the few places in the U.S. which has seen continuous use of steam locomotives. In March 1981, the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW) sold the line and the D&SNG was formed. Today, the D&SNG, along with the C&TSRR, are the only two remaining parts of the former D&RGW narrow-gauge network. The railroad has a total of nine narrow-gauge steam locomotives (eight of which are operational) and soon-to-be eleven narrow-gauge diesel locomotives, six of which were acquired within the last three years, in their current roster. The railroad also operates former D&RGW No. 315 for special events.

Some rolling stock dates back to the 1880s. Trains operate from Durango to the Cascade Wye in the winter months and Durango–Silverton during the summer months. Durango depot was built in January 1882 and has been preserved in its original form.

Yates Mill served Wake County as a water-powered mill for more than 200 years. Of the 70 gristmills that once served Wake County, Yates Mill is the only one still in operating condition.

The water-powered gristmill was an important economic and social center for residents of Wake County from colonial times through the early 1900s. Gristmills provided the important service of grinding corn and wheat into meal and flour.

In rural areas of North Carolina, before towns or crossroad-stores developed, gristmills served as public gathering places for scattered rural populations. Millponds were popular locations for fishing, swimming and picnicking. Yates Millpond is again a popular gathering place, as it once was in the past.

Saksun is a village near the northwest coast of the Faroese island of Streymoy, in Sunda Municipality. Saksun lies in the bottom of what used to be an inlet of the sea, surrounded by high mountains. The inlet formed a good deep natural harbour, until a storm blocked it with sand. The old harbour become an inaccessible seawater lagoon, only accessible by small boats on high tide.

The Royal Exchange in London was founded in the 16th century by the merchant Sir Thomas Gresham on the suggestion of his factor Richard Clough to act as a centre of commerce for the City of London.[1] The site was provided by the City of London Corporation and the Worshipful Company of Mercers, who still jointly own the freehold. It is trapezoidal in shape and is flanked by Cornhill and Threadneedle Street, which converge at Bank junction in the heart of the City. It lies in the ward of Cornhill.

It has twice been destroyed by fire and subsequently rebuilt. The present building was designed by Sir William Tite in the 1840s. The site was notably occupied by the Lloyd's insurance market for nearly 150 years. Today the Royal Exchange contains Fortnum & Mason The Bar & Restaurant, luxury shops, and offices.

Traditionally, the steps of the Royal Exchange are the place where certain royal proclamations (such as the dissolution of parliament) are read out by either a herald or a crier. Following the death or abdication of a monarch and the confirmation of the next monarch's accession to the throne by the Accession Council, the Royal Exchange Building is one of the locations where a herald proclaims the new monarch's reign to the public. from Wikipedia

Success of his Elements of Political Science and his first satirical books Literary Lapses, Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town and Arcadian Adventures of the Idle Rich allowed him to move from his family's summer house at Sibbald Point, Lake Simcoe and over time develop his own lakeside retreat at Old Brewery Bay, where Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching join.

Here in 1928 he built Leacock House (above) designed by Wright & Noxon, Toronto. The scale and ambience of the plans reflected Leacock's success and prestige as a world renowned.

LEACOCK MUSEUM NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE - For over fifty years the Leacock Museum has been welcoming visitors to the Old Brewery Bay on the shores of Lake Couchiching. This stately, 19-room summer home represents Stephen Leacock’s lifetime love affair with Orillia, a town he immortalized as the mythical Mariposa in his quintessential best-seller Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town. Included in the nearly 10- acre site are Leacock House, the Boathouse, Leacock Cafe and the museum archives and administration building. The museum grounds feature gardens and trails ideal for a stroll, especially in their summer fullness or during fall colours. Open year round and available for rentals, meetings and special events. - See more at: www.ontarioslakecountry.com/listing/leacock-museum-histor...

We went for a little drive yesterday and found ourselves at the elk refuge in Jackson Hole Wyoming. This home pictured here is called the Miller House. The sign nearby says, "This house and cabin were built at the turn of the century by Robert E. Miller, First supervisor of the Teton National Forest. In 1915 the Fish and Wildlife Service purchased the building and 1240 Acres as the nucleus for the National Elk Refuge in an effort to preserve elk winter range in Jackson Hole. through the efforts of the Teton County Historical Society, the house was placed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1969."
