Despite what many people think, Mardi Gras in New Orleans is not all bawdy and lewd. That is saved for the French Quarter. The Garden District is SUCH a family scene- fun for kids of ALL ages!

This sculpture of an Acadian family was commissioned to mark the 250th anniversary of the tragic deportation of thousands of Acadians from their ancestral homeland between 1755 and 1762. The family symbolizes the experiences of the numerous families that were forcibly uprooted from their homes and sent into exile to face the unknown future in foreign lands.
Quebec artists Jules LaSalle and Andre Fournelle created the sculpture, which was unveiled on September 3, 2006.

A friend, Bozena, whom we'd met through social media accompanied us to Boyce Thompson Arboretum yesterday and took this photo of Jean, Jasper and me. In this part of the state, leaves start to turn and drop in December (or a little earlier at Boyce Thompson because it's a bit higher elevation).
