Pearl Jam are forced to cancel TWO more shows in Berlin due to illness - days after axing London gig

Pearl Jam have cancelled two more shows due to illness.

The rock group will no longer be playing at Waldbühne, a theatre venue at Olympiapark in Berlin, on Tuesday and Wednesday as they continue to battle sickness.

The news comes just a few days after the band announced their Saturday live gig at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was axed, leaving fans devastated.

The official Pearl Jam account shared a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, apologising and thanking fans for the 'continuing' support, while vowing to 'come back soon' to the German capital.

The statement read: 'We are sorry to share that the Pearl Jam concerts scheduled for Tuesday, July 2nd and Wednesday, July 3rd in Berlin are cancelled. Tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase.

'The impacts of this decision are not lost on us. We feel deeply that so many spend their time, money, and emotional energy to get tickets and then to come see the band and is heart wrenching to have to disappoint you.

'We also appreciate the many people whose hard work goes into making these shows happen.

'Please trust that we never take this decision lightly and try to do everything possible to show up for you all. We wish a reschedule had been possible for this tour leg and hope to come back to Berlin soon.

'Tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase. Thank you for continued understanding and support, it means the world.'

They left their fanbase divided, with some wishing the grunge band a speed recovery while others couldn't hide their disappointment.

'Oh no! Get well soon guys!'; 'Got to see you in Manchester with my boy and even though we knew you was struggling it was still a great memory,sad for the people who are missing out but there's always next time';

'I know this sucks for the fans affected ( I missed out on Indy last year after finding out just hours before show time) but is ANYONE worried for the guys in the band? It just seems to happen much more frequently. I hope they are all feeling better soon';

Others said: 'The European tour has been a disaster';

'It's a shame. Traveling all the way from Serbia, having booked a hotel and flights and everything just for the show, it's sad. Shame it's just 48h before the show tho. I hope Eddie recovers and that they're all ok. And I hope that they'll return/reschedule Europe someday';

'Hope everyone gets better soon. Maybe ask the Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters how they manage to stay healthy while on tour. I don’t think either band has had to cancel a single show yet';

'I'm confused.... London got less than 24hrs notice then Berlin get 48hrs notice 2 days later.... It just doesn't make sense'; 'I am so disappointed :( and I hope that @eventimDE refunds the whole amount... The refunds with them are not the best experience at all :/';

'Oh, no that's disappointing. Fortunately for me i have no travel expenses, but i feel sorry for all who do. Would have loved to see you all in Berlin! Hope the band gets healthy soon and the rest of the tour can continue'; 'Cancel Barcelona and Madrid too and come back only to Barcelona with cheaper tickets'.

The legendary 90s group - formed in 1998 by Eddie Vedder, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, Matt Cameron and Mike McCready - last performed at Manchester's new CO-OP Arena on June 25.

Keyboardist Boom Gaspar has been a touring/session member with the band since 2002.

Frontman Eddie, 59, was previously forced to cancel live shows due to vocal and throat damage.

Taking to social media on Friday in a last minute announcement, the band shared that they 'couldn't be more disappointed' but that there was 'no other option' about their concert in London.

Fans shared their upset at the gig being cancelled, saying they would lose out on money after having paid for travel and accommodation.

A statement on X, formerly Twitter, read as part of a lengthy announcement: 'The Pearl Jam concert scheduled for Saturday, June 29 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London has regrettably been cancelled due to illness in the band.'

Once again, fans of the band wished the band member well but expressed their upset at losing out on money.

In May, Bradley Cooper was seen jumping on stage and performing with Pearl Jam at the Napa Valley Expo in California.

Bradley joined frontman Eddie Vedder, who inspired his character Jackson Maine in his 2018 film A Star Is Born, to perform an acoustic rendition of Maybe It's Time, according to a Rolling Stone report.

At the end of Pearl Jam's set, Bradley was seen joining the band again, after changing into a graphic T-shirt, to perform singer-songwriter Neil Young's Rockin' in the Free World.

He picked up a tambourine at one point to show off his rhythm.

Imitating the image on his T-shirt, Bradley also showed off his rocker-inspired high jump while performing with Eddie and the band.

At the end of the song, Bradley went for a side hug and shared a touching moment with drummer Matt Cameron.

In 2022, the 'extreme circumstances' of playing an outdoor gig in France at a time when the hot weather had sparked a series of fires led to a cancellation.

The grunge group said in a lengthy statement shared on their social media channels at the time: 'To all those who were anticipating a great Pearl Jam show tonight in Vienna, we were too.

'However, due to the extreme circumstances at the last outdoor site outside of Paris (heat, dust, and smoke from the fires) our singer Ed Vedder's throat was left damaged.

'He has seen doctors and had treatment but as of yet, his vocal cords have not recovered. This is brutal news and horrible timing… for everyone involved.

'Those who work so hard to put on the shows as well as those who give their precious time and energies to attend….

'As a band, we are deeply sorry and have tried to find options to still play. And Ed wants to play. There's just no throat available at this time… So very, very deeply sorry.'

In 2019, their concert at London's O2 arena was shelved due to Eddie completely losing his voice.
